Addressing maiden names on envelopes?

Addressing maiden names on envelopes?

So I know the basics of this, but I guess I need a majority opinion, since I'm rather torn:

Many of my married friends have kept their maiden name. On the outer envelope, I'm writing the couple's married name: 'Mr. and Mrs. John Smith'

But on the inner envelope (and I was originally going to do first names since it's a Sunday morning wedding, but I was voted down by all sides), should I write 'Mr. Smith and Ms. Doe' despite having the outer envelope addressed to the unit?

OR, should I address it to their maiden name on the outer envelope as well: 'Mr. John Smith and Ms. Jane Doe' and then have the 'Mr. Smith and Ms. Doe' on the inner?

Does this make any sense?

Oh, and does the man's name or the woman's name go first?

Thanks again!

I think that if they've made the decision to keep their maiden name, you should address the invitations using their maiden name on both the inner and outer envelopes.

I found the same advice on many websites...

Married Couple-She kept maiden name

OUTER:
Mrs. Jane Jones
and Mr. Carl Davis

INNER:
Mrs. Jones and Mr. Davis

I feel like to call a woman by her married name if she didn't take a married name is disrespectful to her choice to keep her name.

I would go both names on both envelopes.

I agree with the above posters, both envelopes should list her with her maiden name if she didn't take her husband's name.

I'm pretty sure the woman's name goes first.
Mrs. Jane Doe
Mr. John Smith

If you specifically know that someone has not changed their name you really should address it to the maiden name. jmho!

Mrs. Jane Doe
Mr. John Smith

or Ms. Jane Doe
Mr. John Smith

but make sure you keep the 'and' -- thats what signifies that they are a married couple.

I agree with this.... except for one thing:

Unmarried couples living at the same address

Mr. Carl Davis
Ms. Jane Jones

Married, she still has maiden name:
Mr. Carl Davis and
Mrs. Jane Jones

The 'and' is placed between names of a married couple, and is omitted for unmarried/ living together.
Then, if the woman is a Dr., it goes like this:
Doctor Jane Jones and
Mr. Carl Davis

Titles always written out, and always first!
