Adoption thread got me thinking- embarassed to post this but oh well...
Original post by nrvbrd
I am deathly afraid of giving birth. I am the biggest wimp when it comes to pain. Because of this a part of me does not want to have kids.
I have always thought I would like to adopt, I think it is a beautiful thing. You see so many needy kids without homes.
Am I really selfish? A part of me thinks that it could be partly psychological?
My husband knows this about me, and he thinks I am nuts, but sometimes I worry about myself.

Fear of most unknowns is common- not just birth but all unknows. I have never been afraid of the 'pain' of childbirth since I know it is over in a few hours and typically doesn't start out at 10- it progresses. My fear of birth is that I am a very controlling person and didn't want people screaming at me to Push or Do This etc..Also, I do not like being in vunerable positions at all. But I will say Hypnobirthing has truly helped me A LOT with so much of this and I am also not afraid at all that I cannot handle any pain. I mean, after my birth story (hopefully coming sooner than later ) we will all know if the Hypnobirthing truly helped but as far as preparing goes I feel confident that I will be fine and my birth will not be some awful TLC type story.

OK ladies, a mommy here and I had to respond.
nrvbrd.......you were me!!! I was laughing at your post about the tampon. I never used tampons for the same reason and I actually use to make myself physically ill before a gyno exam. I use to sit in the waiting room shaking and sweating.
Anyway, I got through my fear and got myself PG and it was really a wonderful expereince. The pain was NOT that bad at all! I was expecting much worse. For me my monthly cramps were worse that the labor pains I had before my wonderful 'epidural'. Once I had the epidural I slept through most of my contractions.
I've had kidney stones and my gall bladder removed and both were much worse than labor pains.
