Can I put this on the bottom on the invite to indicate that its an 'adult only' reception?

Re: 'Adult reception immediately following'
Hi, actually I just got my cousin's invitation that said the same thing, I don't think it's a bad thing. I am not having kids either except for my nieces and nephews (6 of them) and my FH nieces and nephews too. If we had everyone else's kids their would literally be like 30 kids!!!!!!!! can't do it.

I have that on my cards and suprisingly no one said anything negative to me. Actually others told me they were glad I did that.

That is exactly what I did and I had no problems.

No way! That's so tacky and bad etiquette. The inner envelope tells exactly who is invites, so if it says Mr. John Doe & Mrs. Jane Doe
They will know little Jimmy is not invited.

Re: 'Adult reception immediately following'
We just put on the inner envelope exactly who was invited. We had no issues.

i disagree...
i think it's fine, and actually prefer it this way ('Adult reception immediately following') – leaves no room for misinterpretation.

I agree with september2004. Unless you SPECIFICALLY tell my family it is an adult reception, they will bring their children. I've seen them do this on a number of occasions. I have no choice but to put this on the invite.

I disagree. We (B2Bs) know all the etiquitte rules, but most people don't. They assume that they children are always invited. At the bottom of my invites I wrote 'adult reception to follow.' This way it doesn't sound like a 'rule,' but gets my point across.

I agree and I've seen this printed on MANY invites. Some people just don't 'get it' and need to be reminded.

Re: 'Adult reception immediately following'
This is not considered bad ettiquite..If you order invites this is usally one of the sample wordings available.. and I did use it b/c alot of people seem to forget that little Jimmy does not eat the same amount of food as an adualt but yet we get stuck with an adult sized bill

I'm not doing it because I'm HOPING everyone knows not to bring anyone not listed on invite BUT I think It's ok to do, I wouldnt think twice if I saw it written on an invite ..

I'm putting the 'adult only' thing on the reception card. I think it's fine to put it on the invite.

TRUST ME If thats what you want PUT IT IN WRITING ON THE INVITE!!!
YOu think they will understand 'little Jimmy' is not invited, well thats now always the case.
I addressed an invite to Mr & Mrs XXX on the outside Jason and Michelle on the inside, seems simple enough but then why did the response card come back with 6 people attending???
I dont remember inviting your 4 children to my evening wedding....Sorry I am still annoyed by this!

Of course you can! It is NOT in poor taste or bad etiquette. As someone else said, it is shown on many invitation samples, and not everyone assumes that children aren't invited. You have every right to be clear about what you want, and you probably should be.

I wish I could, I have kids coming (surely not my choice, that is the only thing I am not happy about)

Re: 'Adult reception immediately following'
I put something similar on my reception cards. We read in an etiquette book that it is perfectly acceptable.
