Advice

So I am trying to do the right thing but I am not sure what that is right now...

My FILs want me to get the time of the rehearsal changed because they feel it is too late to eat afterwards. The rehearsal time is 7PM, which means the rehearsal dinner would be at 745 or 8PM.

At first I didn't want to get the time changed because I really don't understand what difference it makes..if FH and I are fine with it, everyone else should be as well.

Then I thought I would at least ask, that way I can say I did and just have it over with...

My deacon told me I needed to call the church to find out..but they sometimes schedule the rehearsals at 7 that way the married couple that run the rehearsal have time to get home from work, etc...

Am I wrong that I just want to leave it as is and tell her that it can't be changed?????

It just honestly depends what you want the night before the wedding to be like. I am having a rehearsal lunch so that I can have the whole evening to myself to relax - but if you wanted the fun 'distraction' of the dinner so that you can just go right to bed and wake up on the wedding day - then go for it!

My friend had the same problem as you. The church really wouldn't change it, and gave the same excuse re: working people. We did end up eating pretty late and didn't get out of the RD until after 10PM. We (the BP) didn't mind, but a lot of her family were leaving early. This was on a Wednesday night.
I don't think it matters if it starts late, but if the rehersal is the day before your wedding you should definitely look to moving it earlier, or you won't get home from the RD until very late.

What do you ladies think of having the dinner before hand?

I would leave it for whatever time you want it. Your wedding is late enough the next day that you are ok going with the later rehearsal and dinner.

See, I see no reason why having the dinner first would be a problem. Maybe see if your FIL's would see that as a compromise? I mean, I wouldnt do any heaving drinking, obviously, and then show up to the church, , but otheriwse - that may really work! Because then the night would end much earlier.

I think having dinner before hand MIGHT work. But that really depends... will there be drinking at the RD?? If so then I say don't do it before.

What day of the week is this rehearsal on? Is it the night before the wedding or another night? If they have work the following day then I understand where they are coming from. But if they are all off the next day then I definately think that time is fine.

I think if that time works for you and FH then you should keep it. Do what you have to do. And you can tell your friend you tried to change it and couldn't. This way she can't really be mad at you because you look like you tried to accomidate her ... she will just have to suck it up and put on her big girl panties and go with the flow!

Re: Advice

ours is at 7 too! its just the time the church does it! tell here there is nothing you can do about it!
if you are fine with the time then who cares!
besides i know its not the preist who does the rehearsal at my church, so its people who are volunteering their time to do the rehearsal!

Ours is also at 7pm and initially I was worried about having the dinner afterwards but I booked everything anyway, anyone who doesn't want to stay or thinks it's too late can leave. Sorry, I'm just out of patience for catering to everyones little whims

Re: Advice

i think you should leave it, 8:00 to eat dinner is not really that late. My rehearsal is at 7:30 so we won't be eating till about 9:00. Everyone is an adult and I think they can eat dinner a little late one night. prefer having the RD after the rehearsal. That way everyone can relax and enjoy being together. If you do it before the rehearsal then you will be watching the clock and have to rush so you won't be late for the church. JMO.

Old people make such a big deal about the time they eat. 8 isn't late, I'm sure dinner at your wedding will be even later than that.

Leave it as is, and tell them you tried and the church wouldn't move it.
