My fh and I have to guarantee 150 people for our wedding reception. How many people should we invite to stay around the 150 mark with out going way over?

Our BM told us that the 'No' response rate is generally about 25%. That would suggest you invite 200, unless you have reason to believe that number would be higher or lower (based on what people have told you/responses to STDs, number of OOT guests, if it's a holiday weekend, etc.).
We didn't over-invite by quite that much (wanted to play it safe) and now we're concerned we wont make the minimum...

We have a minimum of 125 and are inviting 154. I'm sure we'll have no problem reaching 125 though.

I always thought to assume 15-20% will decline unless you have a lot of put of town guests or are having a holiday wedding. So 175-180 should get you there perfectly.

My min is 90; I invited 160 and from the looks of the responses so far, I'm concerned about making my minimum. Half my guest list is either out of state or out of the country. So it really depends on the complexion of your guest list and time of year. (I even have local people who are on vacation, or attending other events.)

The more you invite, the greater the percentage of declines. This is true because if you are inviting just a few people, they are likely to be close to you and more likely to attend. The more people you invite, the more distant the relationships become, i.e. inviting second cousins and work colleagues, and those people are less likely to attend. I read that if you invite over 200, you might expect only 65% to attend while if you invite 40, you can count on 90% or more! It also does matter if they are out of town or the country. Our minimun is 200 and we are inviting about 420! We will likely go over our minimum, but I bet not by much!

We invited around 160 guests and we had 125 yes. Most of our OOT guests said no. We also got a lot of unexpected no's

about 20% of your list will be no's on average.. so 20% of 200 is 40 people, making it 160... So I would try to invite around 200 to make sure you are over the 150 minimum

Thanks everyone. I'm going to invite 180 people and hopefully I make 150 to 160 guest max...

I was told by the manager that about 25% of the people you invite don't come, so plan for about that many.
We have to guarantee 150 people and we are going to probably invite 180-190. I really don't want to go over 150, but I know there will probably be unexpected people that respond no. Things happen like that!

We have to guarantee 150 and our list is at 171. If we don't meet it that is totally ok we will just pay it.

I agree with the two posts above. We made our list and were at 175. & your right if we don't get the 150 then will just have to pay it.. I shouldn't worry about it.. Thanks for all the great info everyone!
