I bought wine for my favors and the plan was to remove the original front label and replace it with our personalized label since the personalized labels are so thin that you would see the original label through it. We wanted to keep the back label on the bottle so people would know what type of wine it is.
Here is my problem I bought a bottle of goo gone and tried to remove the front label the whole process was a big mess. The label didn't come completely off and the oily label remover got all over the back label. I saw a video online from the company I ordered the labels from and they said to soak the bottles in warm water with oxyclean and the label will peel right off. This would mean the back label would come off too.
My mom thinks that the back label needs to stay on otherwise people may not know what is in the bottle and have an 'allergic' reaction. I feel like its a wine bottle in a wine bag and you can see its white wine.
What do you think?

Re: Advice about wine favors
thats what i was telling my mom. I feel like all the people we are inviting are smart enough to know its wine. I have one friend who is allergic to the sulfides in wine and I know she will realize its wine

I'd peel it all off. if it's a huge deal for the back label, I'd prob get small circle labels with the info and stick it on the bottom. That way you don't have to worry about messing up the back label.

Re: Advice about wine favors
i guess today allergies can be a concern for a lot of people. i have a few suggestions:
1. try to so the warm water/oxy soak so that the front side of the bottle is soaking and not the back (like in a small container so the bottle is sideways).
2. put a blank label over the front label before putting your personalized label over it (realize that means buying additional blank labels)
3. just remove both labels before putting yours on and take a picture of/copy down the information on the back label and have it somewhere at the wedding near where you are handing them out
eta: most people will probably not have a problem if the original labels are there, but it would be good to have on hand, you never know who has allergies or preferences.

Re: Advice about wine favors
maybe on your personalized label, write what brand and what wine... they can look up online to get the ingredients

I would drink it too lol
but if you are concerned you could ordered small labels to go on the back that explain what type of wine it is.

Honestly, the personalized bottle, will probably y find home on display on our bar. On display next to the Duff beer we bought in Venice, & our True Blood...So the back label wouldn't matter.

Re: Advice about wine favors
Thanks ladies I think I am either going to add the type of wine to the front of the bottle or take some of your suggestions about adding another small label somewhere else. I will try to see if I can just soak off the front label. I'll keep you ladies posted.

Re: Advice about wine favors
i read the same advice for taking labels off wine bottles... I'm worried that soaking in warm water will some how 'heat' the wine, and change the flavor?
thoughts?? please tell me I'm wrong!!

Re: Advice about wine favors
i don't think it will as long as you don't use hot/boiling water. I think thats why you add the oxyclean otherwise the water would have to be pretty hot to soften the glue.

i kind of agree with this... you dont ever want to heat up wine, im assuming the instructions were for an EMPTY wine bottle....

Re: Advice about wine favors
has anybody successfully heated wine and then tasted it.
I visited florence last winter and they served hot wine (like tea) which was delicious, but i would be afraid the flavor would not be as good once it was heated and cooled???

Re: Advice about wine favors
I've also had heated wine before and it can be great just never cooled in down after wards. Osprey Dominion vineyards out east makes a spice wine that is soooo good heated up.
edited for spelling
