Advice... Birthdays near wedding

Advice... Birthdays near wedding

Okay... my FH's b-day is 5 days after we get married (we'll be in Disney!). His sister's b-day is 2 days BEFORE we get married. Do we acknowledge any of this? I can definitely see acknowledging his, but do I have to say something about his sister? My FH HATES having attention on him (he couldn't even EAT at our e-party... I'm hoping he's okay at our wedding). I may get a Yankee Stadium grooms' cake made for him as a birthday surprise with his favorite filling (chocolate and peanut butter). Should they write 'Happy B-day?' Should the DJ say something? Should we all sing? What do you think?

My Aunt's birthday is the same day as our wedding and we aren't going to do anything.
I did go to a wedding once where it was one of the GM's b-day and they sang happy birthday to him. I think thats totally up to you.

Thanks... I just feel like if I do it for my FH, I have to do it for his sister, but I guess that's not the case, right?

I think you can do it for FH and not his sister - he's the groom!!!

Mine and FH share a bday and our bday is our wedding day so I'm sure someone will have the band sing Happy Birthday for us - I think you should do the same for your FH.

her's is before the wedding--acknowledge it then with a card and gift like normal... you dont have to say anything about her at the wedding.
for him, the cake sounds like a good idea but since you said he doesn't like attention on him maybe not?? i can't even imagine that because my FH LOVES attention!

While I don't think it's required that you acknowledge either his birthday or his sister's, I think it's definitely a good idea. The least you can do is announce both of their birthdays and sing happy birthday - it really won't be a big deal or cause you any trouble, and I'm sure it would be very appreciated, especially by his sister who probably won't be expecting it.

Keep in mind also that since his sister's birthday is only two days before the wedding, most of her family will probably be too busy and distracted to make a big deal out of it, so it might be nice to recognize that by singing happy birthday to her.

Like I said, not required, just thoughtful.

he hates pictures and hates attention. our wedding day will be fun. lol! I think I may just write Happy Birthday at least on his Groom's Cake, and maybe I'll ask the DJ to play Happy Birthday. Maybe we'll put an extra birthday gift in my FSIL's bag, and sing happy birthday at the rehearsal dinner, which will be the night before! That sounds like a good idea! It's her 25th, so I feel bad she won't be able to use any day that weekend to celebrate.

my FG's 3rd birthday is the day of the wedding & we are doing a little cake for her & the band will sing to her!

It is also FH's grandfather's birthday the day after so we will be singing happy birthday to him too!

My birthday was a few days before my wedding and fell on the same day as the RD. We had cake and sang at the RD, but that was it. It confused most of DH's family, because they didn't know.

We had no birthday references at the wedding.

I attended a friend's wedding on my birthday several years ago. She made apoint of giving me a b-day card at the wedding, which was very sweet of her.

IMHO, let the day be about your wedding!

FI's 30th Birthday is one week before the wedding. Since we've postponed our HM, I'm going to surprise him with a three/four day trip somewhere the week after the wedding...sorta like a mini-HM and Bday gift combined...

Mom's bday is two days before the wedding, Brother's bday is the day after the wedding, one of our BM's birthday is also one day before the wedding...we're going to have a birthday cake w/all their names at the rehearsal Dinner, and maybe have some type of acknowledgement at the wedding itself.

We had the DJ announce DH's grandma's birthday, which was the day before, a guest whose birthday was the day of and another guest whose wedding anniversary was that day.

I would definitely make an announcement for FH's sister but I might not say anything about him since his birthday is after the fact.

My Grandma had her 93rd Birthday 2 days after the wedding...she's such an amazing part of my life especially since she is my Mom's Mom and my Mom had passed away 5 years ago.

We celebrated with a cake, etc. for her at our wedding. Both DH & I wouldn't have had it any other way...

Now...of course MIL is She wanted her birthday to be celebrated too because she was 2 weeks prior to our wedding... Thankfully someone shut her up and said..'Ummm...are you 93?!'...I didn't think so.

Don't feel obligated to do anything. Do what you feel is right in your heart. I like the idea of celebrating at the Rehersal Dinner.

Re: Advice... Birthdays near wedding

our wedding day is shared with some special bdays and my parents anniversary.
We are having my parents have an anniversary dance.

It is also FH's brother's bday day of wedding and day after the wedding.
It's also my good friend's bdays so we'll probably have the DJ do a bday shout out and play, 50 cent, in da club...

We did that as well for my MIL and BM who share a birthday (10 days before the wedding) and for my ILs anniversary which was the day of our RD...one cake, lots of stuff written on it! lol

We're doing an Anniversary dance for my parents. Now, their 40th wedding anniversary is 2 months beforehand, but they're not doing anything for it since the wedding will be right around the corner. I already told the DJ that I would like something to be said about my parents' anniversary, he can play their wedding song, and then I want to present my bouquet to my mom right after the dance. (although I also want to toss it - and keep my own, so I think I'll need three bouquets! lol). Lots of celebrating at weddings!

Re: Advice... Birthdays near wedding

when my cousin got married on the same day as my dad's bday, they were kind enough to have the hall bring out a bday cake at the end with the dj making an announcement and we all sang happy birhtday to him.

it was a nice touch, but not necessary and my dad wouldn't have been upset if it wasn't acknowledged since it was the 's day.

another one of my cousin's got married ON her bday and they chose to not acknowledge it at all... we tease her DH all the time because it's one less date/event he has to remember!

it's totally up to you.

Re: Advice... Birthdays near wedding

Me and my FSIL share a b-day which will be a few days after the wedding. I plan on acknowleding hers...I think it will be a nice thing to do for her...my first 'sister-in-law' act of kindness!!
I think it would be nice to say a little something if an immediate family member or someone in the BP is about to or just celebrated a b-day... and think of how good it will make them feel!!
