My FH is Catholic and I am Jewish. We have decided that we are getting married by a Judge and that we will add some pieces from the Jewish Ceremony and the Catholic Ceremony.
My mom has been out of control. She called me yesteday and asked if I would get married under a Hoopa. I told her that was not what we want. Well she is not talking to me now.
I have only been engaged for a month and I have already had 2 huge fights with her. Now I am at the point that I am not even telling her anything about the wedding. Everything I have told her she is negative about. I want to enjoy the wedding planning and she is not making it very easy.
Just needed to vent. Is anyone else having the same or similar problems.

Vent away! I've done it plenty of times.
Thats rough when it comes to religion, it was world war 3 when i told my parents that i was having the ceremony in the RH and not a church....but they got over it.
I think if your just open and honest with your mom then she is just going to have to respect you and your RH....if not, let her yell and blow off steam, but let her know that this is YOUR wedding and she is ruining what should be fun wedding planning for you.
I wish you all the best, ive been to one combo ceremony and it was BEAUTIFUL.

Re: Advice Needed
CHCC does have one but it is more her trying to direct what my wedding is. This is already the 2nd thing she wants her way and not my FH and my way. She said that she is going to help me and my FH by giving some money. But honestly I don't even want the money. She is using it to hold over my head and get what she wants.
My dad is actually Catholic but he didn't care and they had a completely Jewish Ceremony. I have tried to explain to my mom that just because that is what they decided does not mean that is what I have to do!

O yes vent away and I feel you pain!
I am catholic FH is Jewish.. we originally we're just gonna have a justice marry us so no one could be upset over the religious aspects..we decided to actually have FH's uncle marry us in a non religious kind of way.
As far as FH's mom...she tried to control things with our wedding (and e-party) a made the first month or two of our engagement MISERABLE.. O and the months leading up to the engagement also... so now she can't know anything wedding related.. I feel kinda bad I dont want to hurt her feelings but this is mine and FH's day and we dont need anymore stress...and we definately dont need to be fighting because of her.

I love when she is like that is not how we did it for our wedding. Newsflash... It isn't her wedding.

Hahaha... my mom doesn't really think we should register at all because New Yorkers -- Jewish or not -- will just give money anyway
FMIL made us register..I really didnt want too all it did was allow people to be cheap... minus FH's wonderful cousin that bought us the margaritaville!

Oh my gosh! I feel like you are telling my story! My fiance is catholic and I am Jewish too. We decided we wanted to get married by a justice of the peace and bring in as much or as little of the religion that we wanted.. that isnt happening.. My FH's mother flipped out on us telling me we HAD to have a priest otherwise she would not recognize our wedding.. and once my mother heard that she insisted there must be a rabbi too.. so now we get to pay for 2 clergy and deal with all the stuff that comes along with clergy.. if you ever feel like venting again, feel free to message me!

I am so glad that I am not alone. The funny thing is that my FH and I are so on the same page about the whole religion thing.... why can't my mom!
I guess at least I should count my lucky stars that I am not getting it from both sides. Unfortunately my FH's parents are not alive so they have been quiet on the topic. ... haha
