Advice needed on wedding day

Advice needed on wedding day

So I need opinions, I've always preferred a Saturday evening wedding, I still would, however I'm more flexible on the day than I am the time of year. The fiancee and I have been to several venues, all of them not working out for one reason or another ( I am overly picky, we do not want to go too far out onto LI, carpeting, etc ) however, I am aware of this and know what I'm dealing with, and have areas I'm willing to compromise on. That said, I did really like one venue, however Friday evening would be our only option as our guest list isn't large enough to meet the minimum needed for a September Saturday. My fiancee is having a really hard time coming around to the idea of a Friday wedding. I ideally picked the Friday of Labor Day weekend, figuring most people leave work early, or take off, and on a Friday we can start the ceremony whatever time we'd like so we can do it a little later, and people will still have a three day weekend. Any advice, good points I can bring up to him to help him soften up to the idea? Like I said, I would prefer a Saturday myself, but would rather get married at a place I really like than settle on location just to have it on a Saturday. I'm not sure what to do next if we have to start looking at venues again. Sorry to ramble! Thanks girls!

I kinda don't really know why people have issues with Friday's anymore - it is a prime wedding day! I have been to so many Friday weddings as it is, and booked a Friday without a second thought. It's not like you're getting married on a Tuesday or something.

I definitely think you should go with your gut and get the place you love even if it's a Friday. If you compromise you will never be truly happy.

I'm having a Friday wedding as well the way that I see it is that people who really want to come will make the effort to come, if not I have a back up list of people to invite if some of the original would be guests give me grief about a Friday wedding. As much as I would love everyone to come it is still MY day and to me a Friday was a good day for me so we can party all weekend!

I am getting married on a Friday and never really thought twice about it. I think Friday weddings are becoming a little more popular since prices are usually cheaper on Friday nights. I also looked at it this way, after a Friday wedding, your guests still have 2 days of the weekend to recover instead of 1. I thought about this since FH and I won't be going on a honeymoon right away so we have an extra day before going back to work.

We struggled with this too. It all came down to what we could afford. We originally wanted either Saturday or Sunday of a holiday weekend in the fall. Well all those things are expensive! lol So we changed our date to August (cheaper than Sept/Oct when you're not on the water) and decided on Friday night. Those who want to come to your ceremony will find a way and they will be there. Even on a Saturday a lot of people still don't come to the church!

Also, with a holiday weekend consider the cost of traveling for your guests.. we figured if we were gonna do Friday, we would pick a regular Friday. Hotel rates go up holiday weekends and so do flights.. just something to keep in mind if you have a lot of OOT guests.

So FH and I struggled with this also. We went with a Saturday night. Yes it is more money, but we have a lot of family and friends coming in from out of town. If it were a friday night they would have to take two days off from work as opposed to one. Personally, I did not want to do that to my friends and family. People are rarely given days off from work and with the current economy people need to work and get paid for it. I have many friends that dont get paid if they do not work. I want my close friends and family to be there. I do not have a B list because if I want you at the wedding you're already invited.

I know I am the minority because most people are booking Friday nights. I chose a Saturday in the winter so I can have a Saturday, a better rate, and everyone can relax and enjoy.

If you find the perfect venue, I think you should do what you can to make it work. If that means having your wedding on a Friday, do it! As many people already said, those guests who mean the most to you are going to come no matter what. You want the place where you are celebrating one of the happiest days of your life to be everything that you want. You're not going to notice what day of the week it is, but you are going to remember the food, the room, the experience, the staff, the grounds...etc.

My FH and I searched high and low for the best venue at a price we could afford. When we first entered our venue, we fell in love and knew it was the one. We got creative to get it at a price we could afford; we are actually getting married on the Thursday of 4th of July weekend, as 4th of July is being observed that Friday, so everyone should have Friday off. There are ways to do it!

We're doing the Friday of Memorial Day. The Friday of Labor Day was my second choice. Some people will already have off, and others that will be traveling will be coming for a few days anyway. FFIL was the only one to have an issue with it, but he finally came around. It was at least $3000 cheaper for my venue to do it on a Friday. Whoever wants to be there will be there!!! I have been to so many Friday weddings the past few years! It is definitely becoming more common!

Depends how many out of towners you really want to come to your wedding. What about a Saturday during the day? Or Sunday?

I don't know what your price range is, but there are nice venues out there that are more reasonably priced. You may not get everything you want, so have to decide what is the most important to you.

I know Fridays are becoming more popular, but if you don't have the day off people are so tired after a long work week. I personally have had a much better time at Sat or Sun weddings because I'm not so tired!

Crashing! Lol

I went with a Saturday wedding as much as I just wanted to do Friday because I used to work at a catering hall and I just saw the difference in the two days every time. From the time that cocktail hour begins, it is obvious that everyone is jus more tired on a Friday. It's quiet and people aren't drinking (as) much lol! Also, after cake, a majority of people leave.

It's totally up to you and what you can afford. At the end of the day, you are not going to look back and say that you wish you would have done it on a Saturday. Also, you have the whole weekend left if you do a Friday! Just wanted to explain to you about why I chose Saturday from a different perspective! Good luck!

Re: Advice needed on wedding day

Thank you all for your input, you all make good points. I am more open to Friday than he is, I do just worry about people being tired, right now I work both Friday and Saturday and know the feeling when I have to go anywhere those nights, but deep down feel the people we want there will be there and will have a great time, no matter what I do I'm sure someone will have something to say along the way so I'm really just trying to take into account immediate family, and us of course. A Sunday wedding would only be a option for a holiday weekend (which based on the laughs we have gotten from some venues books 3 years in advance lol). We went to another venue last night and BOTH REALLY liked it so now we have a whole new batch of decisions to make! Thanks again for all the advice, this is all new to me and can be VERY overwhelming.

We also had this dilemma. Fh and I were dead set on having a Saturday wedding. Once we started shopping around and saw the price difference between Friday nights and Saturday nights (like $40 less per person on Friday) we had to change our minds. We didn't want to pick a less appealing venue just for a night of the week. We ended up booking a Friday. Honestly, I don't think its really that big of a deal. Your guests will have plenty of notice if they need to take off of work or leave early. And they have the rest of the weekend to recover. I don't think people really mind, Friday night weddings are very common now a days.

I know this might sound a little selfish... but the day is all about your and your future hubby. In the end you have to do what works best for the both of you, not what works for everyone else.

Good luck!!

Re: Advice needed on wedding day

I feel the same way, we are looking at September 2015 so there will be PLENTY of notice to make arrangements. I am more open to it as personally it makes no sense to spend at least $20 more pp over a day, that could easily be put toward our honeymoon or aside for our future ( or one of the many other wedding costs that I'm sure will come up along the way ). We are doing the ceremony at the venue so we can start at 7:30 and many will be able to make it. All the out of towners are coming from Europe so chances are they will be taking more than one day off anyway. FH unfortunately is the most indecisive person ever and when he finally makes a decision if he hears one thing negative about it he goes back to the drawing board and will question whether or not he made the right decision until the day of. lol. I love the man but he makes me crazy!

Re: Advice needed on wedding day

You both need to decide and make sure you will have no regrets! My concerns with Friday weddings are:

Your guest may have to take a day off from work so they too can look fab for your wedding

Those who are going to work are in a rush to get to your wedding or may be delayed

Fatigue -really too tired to enjoy the event -

No time to prepare - last minute Saturday morning stuff nails, haircut, etc. has to be done Mon- Thurs.

PR0's

Smaller intimate wedding
Less expensive
Sat- Sun Free days

Go with your gut!

Re: Advice needed on wedding day

Some companies (I know mine does) actually gives us off the Friday before Labor day - or else its usually a quiet day in alot of offices so people might be able to leave early

Go with your gut and for the place you love!

Re: Advice needed on wedding day

This sounds like me except in our case, I was your fiance. I just had my heart set on a Saturday and there was no budging. Luckily the place I fell for did have a few Saturdays left (but very few) for fall 2014. However, if they didn't and I HAD to pick a Friday, I would have....but in the back of my mind, I would have worried way too much about how I was affecting other people's days. Even though Fridays ARE really popular now. Tell him a lot of people are used to it by now and those that want to be there will happily do so!

Yes! You are right...no matter what (even if it's on a Saturday) someone, somewhere is gonna have an opinion.

Re: Advice needed on wedding day

FH really wanted a Sat night wedding, but because of the Sabbath, I didn't want to be eating dinner at midnight. So we agreed to a later day Sunday wedding. This way we get a nighttime feel during the reception.

I don't see why he wouldn't like a Friday night wedding. I would have picked one if I could have. Most of your guests will not be working the next day so it can be late and you still get that night time party feel.
