Advice Needed - RSVP related

I never thought I would need to post for advice regarding possible drama but here goes!!

We invited someone on FH's side named Aunt X (who is widowed I think) with granddaughter X. Not sure what the deal is with Aunt's daughter.

Anyway - we gave them 3 seats , Aunt, granddaughter and her DH if he wanted to come. Mind you they live out west. I knew they booked the hotel room before the invites even came out, and booked for 4 people.

FH and I knew they were coming to visit other family as well, so we weren't concerned about the 4 hotel guests. However, we just received the RSVP card (21 days late) the number 3 we put down was crossed out and the number 4 was written in with all the names.

Okay I could deal if this was another adult - whatever, but it is the grandaughter's child! We are not having children at our wedding (just our choice - there are way too many on both sides and we made that tough decision.)

I guess it is what it is but still. I mean my Mom's brother isn't coming and we are pretty sure it's because of the no children.

I dont' know what we can do and I'm just venting I guess because we have lots of other guests with children that aren't coming. this child (not sure of age) will be the only one...Im irritated that's all!!!!!!! Thanks for listening!!

Situations like this are never easy. I would see if they are offended if you can find them a babysitter since OOT or just suck it up & have the one child.
either way I would mention it to them & advise them of what your plans are.

Ugh i know how you feel. I had a cousin do the same thing. Honestly if there coming from out of town, i would just let them bring the kid. No one will even notice that he/she is there. We had only nieces and nephews at our wedding but i made an exception for my cousin since she was coming from oot. My mom was worried that other people would be annoyed that their kids weren't invited, but i had to stop thinking about what everyone else was going to think. No one complained and everyone had a great time. Save yourself the stress and just let it go.

ETS: i was talking about two different cousins. The one from oot i wanted her kids there. Another cousin who i invited with a guest, crossed out two and put 3, for him and the two foster kids he was taking care of. He lived close to the hall and i had to tell him that they couldn't come since we did have so many guests who had children. I'm rambling tonight!

Is there a family friend that is not invited to the wedding or responsible teenage child that isn't going to the wedding that could babysit?

We also did not have children at our wedding. We suggested that those guests who were traveling with children that they either bring someone with them to watch the children during the wedding or we offered to find a babysitter for them (we did not offer to pay for the babysitter). A few of DH's relatives did not come because of the no children thing.

If you do not want to have children at your wedding, you will have to call these people up and explain why. Give them a few suggestions. It's your wedding and you do not have to have anyone there that you do not want.

how old is the child...if its a baby i would say maybe let it go.

but otherwise i would politely call and just explain the situation (meaning your 'policy') but have child care information ready to give to them
like a child care service in the area or numbers for babysitters. u could probably ask a friend/coworker if they would mind coming to the hotel to babysit (or maybe have this kid join another kid who is being watched in your family)

and i know u really shouldnt be doing it for them...and they really should have known (or at least called and discussed it with you)...but people just think about themselves.

itll be fine!

wow... can you hire a babysitter and tell them that no children are allowed but you have a reliable baby sitter for them?

that makes me soooo mad when people think they can just cross out a number given to them on the RSVP and add their own. The descent thing woulda been for them to CALL you and ask if it's okay to bring the kid. There's no way I'd be nice about it and just let it slide without a word. I feel like if that happens to me, I'll be calling them. Not to be 'nasty' or anything, but to tell them that I had put that number for a reason and we can't be adding anybody else. And that there's no other children invited, so it wouldn't be right. yadda, yadda, yadda. I just can't believe how rude people are!

Thanks ladies for all your advice, thoughts and comments!!!

I'm not sure what we are doing about it - I think for now we'll just let them all come. I feel bad a little because they are traveling from MO but on the other hand I'm stunned that they actually crossed out numbers and changed things!! Who are they!!

It's just rude to me. On the upside, I'll never see them again - FH is not close and I don't think he expected them to attend! So I'm def not going to stress it but I really needed to vent more than anything!!!

I've seen it all the time when lurking (as you can see I don't post much) stories about the RSVP and now it happened to me! LOL

Maybe if anything we will offer a babysitter....I think the child is between 7-10 not sure! But it stinks because I have cousins the same age that are not coming b/c we are not having children. (There are way too many on both sides total.)

I appreciate all your thoughts and comments!!! I just say a big WHATEVER!!!! to this particular issue / guest!!!
