Advice Needed--Sorry Little Long

Hi Ladies:

SO...I have a 'dilema' or maybe I'm over reacting but advice is needed. My mother is getting her dress made for my wedding and she bought her material in July/August and it's turqouise and my FMIL was already aware of that. However, she recently went dress shopping for herself and asked me numerous amounts of times what color my mother's was and I told her....she (FMIL) finally ordered her dress in Aqua....which is a few shades lighter than my mother's color. Do I have a right in being a little upset? They're both in the same color family. I wanted the mother's to be in their own separate colors in different spectrums of the rainbow.

With that being said, my mother isn't sure if she's going to wear the dress she is getting made and may get something else now. I really don't want to tell my FMIL that she would be getting a different dress in a totally different color and if she didnt then I don't want to tell her that their colors are similar. If my mom does get a different colored dress then how do I approach the situation? If I dont tell my FMIL that she changed teh color then she may get annoyed the day of my wedding and if i tell her before hand then i don't want to cause hard feelings.....

Am I going nuts and overreacting?

i was someone who didn't really care what color my mom or my DH's step mom wore...so I would say you are over reacting... but I could understand if this was something important to you, I would tell MIL that YOUR MOM is wearing that color. Then I would make sure your mom IS wearing that color....

btw:

step mom in law wore MAGENTA...

MAGENTA = HOT PINK....

it was fabulous... and the talk of the wedding even 2 years after.

I don't think anyone will be payin attention to what they have on so i wouldn't worry too much about it...

My FMIL decided to try to match the BMs dresses even though I had asked her not to. Since she ordered her dress from jcpenney.com, they're not going to exactly match the colors of my girls who are in Alfred Angelo Pistachio... and I'm a little worried that she's going to just look like she's trying too hard to match and not succeeding.

I took a deep breath when she told me what she ordered and waited a few hours before I replied to her email. Instead of getting upset at her, I just told her that I'm sure she'll look beautiful in it, and I moved on.

Why your FMIL had to ignore you, I don't know, but try to go with it somehow. The dress your mom is having made isn't going to look anything like her dress, and if the colors are somewhat close, then it'll all sorta blend in the color palate. It's a little silly for your mom to not wear her special dress just because of a little color clashing. For the pictures, they won't be next to each other, anyway.

Just my opinion on it... you're not wrong to be upset, but I think it's something you can work with, not plan around.

I actually think that would look nice. What color are your BM dresses?

As long as they're not the exact same dress, I don't think there's any reason to intervene.

You know, it could be worse. At least they won't clash. They are wearing complementary colors and it will look nice when you are all in a picture together, right? Better than clashing?

My aunt had her dress ordered fo rmy cousins wedding, itt cost over 1000$. Then the bride told my aunt that her mother felt it was too similar to hers (which it ended up not looking ANYTHING like) and asked my aunt to buy a new dress. Being as how my aunt hates conflict, she dropped another 1800 to have a dress made, and ended up looking 10 times better then the brides mom. I think the dresses will be fine together, but if yo do decide to say something, try to plan out what your going to say before hand, to avoid hurt feelings

I don't know...it wouldn't bother me. The only 'rules' I had was that I asked FMIL not to wear black. She hasn't chosen her dress yet, but if it were in the same color family as my mom's dress, I don't think it would be a big deal. I might be upset if they wore the same dress...but same color is not a big deal at all. Your mom and FMIL will be in very few pics together. And you will be the center of attention, not either of them.

I think you have the right to be upset, but I wouldn't do anything about it. Let your FMIL look like to copycat and deal with it herself.
