Advice on a speech???

Ok, I know that only I know the couple intimately here...But in 2 weeks I have to give a speech at my best friends wedding (as the MOH) and could really use some help....

Any sentiments, phrases, famous quotes that might be fitting that I could work around???

I am REALLY nervous.....

HELP!

You can say how long you've known each other and what she means to you.

Think what you want to say from your heart and write it down at first to get ideas.I'm sure you will do a great job. What an honor.

Re: Advice on a speech???

My speech to my best friend on her wedding day:

(this works because I'm an only child, but all ideas make you think, right?)

When I was a little girl, I used to ask my parents to give me a sister. I never got one, but instead I met Helene, and she has been a better sister to me than anyone I could have imagined.

After we met, we used to sit and wonder what our husbands would be like, and always hoped of finding our own 'Prince Charming's'

Jared has far surpassed Helene's dreams, and certainly is her 'Prince Charming.' I love you both and wish you have a wonderful life together...

short and sweet! I couldn't remember the end as well but it was something like that w/ the prince charming stuff!

Re: Advice on a speech???

Thanks Novemberbride...I actually did that....
I am just having a hard time working it all into a speech that sounds like a speech....not just a whole bunch of jumbled thoughts!!

This is harder than I thought.....

Anyone good at speeches have some pointers?

***erox*** thank you - I was posting this at the sametime you posted yours....

THANKS!

Re: Advice on a speech???

Our best man did a wonderful job on the speech.
He talked about how long they've been friends.
He thanked his DH's parents for opening their hearts and their home to him for so many years.
The best man said his wife and children love Jimmy, sometimes more than he thinks they love him (everyone laughed) and he said that Jimmy is very lucky to have me.He said we are all lucky to have me in their lives and that he wishes the best for us both.

Re: Advice on a speech???

I would start off with a short & sweet story about the two of you that reflects the friendship & bond you both share.

If you were friends with he when they started dating, it would be fun to hear a story about them getting together from a friends perspective.

Re: Advice on a speech???

I have some don'ts for you!

Don't quote the dictionary.
Don't write it out and read from it.
Don't drink too much before the speech.

adding a don't to Becky's post...

Don't make it too long...people only listen for about 5 minutes before they start to wonder when you'll sit down!
