Advice, please!

Can anyone offer some suggestions on what I might be able to do to ease my discomfort??

In the office .. there is a horrible stench of cigarette. I am very sensitive to it .. my eyes are burning to a point I can't really see straight, and it's giving me a headache and making me feel nauseous.

I've noticed this stink just over the past couple of days .. and I'm not really sure where it's coming from .. however .. it doesn't really matter because I can not switch desks anyway .. and there are no windows to open for fresh air.

Would putting plants on my desk help??? Or is there some kind of air freshener .. or something ... anything ... I might be able to do to alleviate this situation????

I don't really know what to tell you but I sympathize with you COMPLETELY. In our old apartment, apparently the guy from across the hall, his stove vent was hooked up to our's and he chain smoked, so the smoke would just pour through into our apartment. So after the management company refused the fix the vent, I had to call the department of health to mediate. They FINALLY fixed it, but then the smoke started to come through the vent in the bathroom! I have a very sensitive nose and I HATE the smell of cigarettes, not to mention I have asthma and smoke triggers it. I think I would be going crazy looking for the source of the smoke if I were you! Maybe it will go away since you said it's just been a few days that you've noticed it. Good luck!

i dont understand.. where do you work? (type of office) do you work alone..?? maybe somebody is sneakin a smoke and its coming thru the vents?? no windows?? i'd say, buy a desk top air filter and charge it to your company! no job is worth getting sick over.. I would def ask them to look into what the odor is if its not someone's 2nd hand smoke.

I don't know why or how it works but it did.....a long time ago when it was legal to smoke in offices we had a 'smoking office'. After a bit of reshuffling we had to put one of our VPs in there and that office STUNK of stale smoke. We put an open bowl of fresh ground coffee in the office and changed it every few days and the smell was gone.

I tried it in my old apartment too and it worked. So if you don't mind coffee smell, put a small bowl by your desk/office and see if it works.

I heard once that vanilla scented things helps to remove the smoke scent.

There are also air filters and special smoke eaters candles (I know that's not practical though).
