advice please!!

advice please!!

One of my BM's ordered her dress two sizes too small. (Without telling me!!) I spoke to the bridal place about it and they confirmed that she did order two sizes small. She has lose 5 inches on her waist and 4 on her bust. My wedding is less than three months away.

They told me that to fix it they have to order more material open the sides and make panels. The dress is two tone so they would have to order two types of material. This is not included in the alterations cap and would cost about $200.00. The dress was 198 - but she had to get a plus size so Ithink she paid like 220 or so. That means its going to wind up costing her over $400!

The other option is to make it a corset back - an idea I'm not totally in love with. I'm not sure how much this would cost.

I haven't told that I spoke to anyone about it, but I did ask her how she was doing as far as weight loss. She said 'not that much.'

I told her to go try on the dress ASAP and I will let them tell her about it. I know she is really strapped for money so I have no idea if she can do it or not. I have NO clue what to do. WHAT WAS SHE THINKING???

This

I'm sorry that she did that..didn't she know that you always get a size bigger rather then 2 smaller! She should have told you before she ordered it

oh no that stinks
we had the same issue when my sister ordered the dress...she planned on loosing weight so if she wanted to order a smaller size she had to sign for it. but my sister decided not to chance it in case she didnt lose the weight.
unfortunately since your friend knew what she was getting in to when she ordered the dress, i would just give her the options and let her pick. i do think adding fabric may look better but bc $$$ is an issue i would also tell her about the corset back and let her decide...
sadly there is nothing you can do at this point

Do you think the corset back would be noticable? If she is the only one with it? Does it even matter?

Ok... honest opinion....

If you don't like the corset back - don't do it. In all honesty, she should know better to order it bigger than smaller because you can take the bigger in. In addition, if she's already buying a plus sized dress and paying the extra fee - why not buy it in the correct size? I'd have them order the panels... perhaps I'd offer to cover some of the cost - but I personally think she needs to rectify the situation that she caused.

Sorry - just my opinion!

unfortunately she made her bed and now she has to lye in it. If the dress doesn't fit she only has herself to blame. I don't think there is really anything that you can do. You did everything you could and so did the dress shop.

some people just don't think... I would much rather have a dress taken in than have it too small.

i dont think a corset back is a big deal...it wont be noticeable in pictures or anything and i dont think anyone would wonder why it is different

personally it's your wedding - if you want it or not is up to you....sorry to be cold but she should pay for everything - if she didn't sign a waiver - it would be a different story - but she knew what she was getting into and you don't need the added stress!!! What was she thinking My BM bought a smaller dress b/c her chest is huge! she fit into a 8 but b/c they are soooo big on they size chart they wanted to order a 12 - she said no way - she refused and lost 11 lbs already - it really depends on your BM! Good luck!

I guess I'll have to think about it. She has been so good to me through this whole thing, but I just can't afford to help her with this. The dress isn't even going to get on her - at least if it was just tight or something I could handle it. This is just added stress to my life!.

Did she go try the dress on yet..are they sure it will not fit without adding panels (possibly just letting it out a bit)

I hear where you're coming from....I would feel bad - but not too bad since it's like she sabotaged herself!!!!!!!!!!

I told her to make an appt ASAP. I haven't told her I already talked to the shop about her dress yet. Maybe someone is watching over me and that will be the case!

Crashing...

My SIL ordered a dress smaller then her actual size. She ended up taking it somewhere else to get altered and it game out GREAT! She had them just redo the skirt of the dress. Another BM's gained weight from when she ordered the dress. She ended up having a corset back put on the dress. It still looked great and there are no pictures of her back in the dress so it didn't really matter. All dresses were pictured in the front. Don't worry about the dress. I'm sure it will all work out. The corset is def the cheapest and easiest way to go.

Re: advice please!!

My MOH was in a wedding when she was pregnant and they had to do a corset back because of her belly. She was the only one with it. Nobody noticed, and it looked fine. She had it done by a family friend tho bc Davids Bridal wanted to charge an arm and a leg.

Re: advice please!!

i would give her the option of whatever's most affordable esp since she's tight on cash. unfortunately, this is her fault and i'm surprised that the store let her order a dress 2 sizes too small...1 size maybe, but 2 sizes????? i put my foot down on this when one of my BM insisted on getting a smaller size (for her sanity) but i said NO NO NO NO NO. I'm sorry that this happened

Re: advice please!!

I had the same issue, but keep in mind that almost always these places order sizes that are too big. For my brothers wedding they made me order 8 sizes up b/c of my hips. Mind you, the dress came and looked like a freakin curtain. I could literally get it on and off without opening the zipper

One of my BM's ordered a dress 6 sizer smaller, and honestly I was worried until another BM's went, got sized 4 sizes larger, then tried on the sample in her size and it fit beautifully.

I wouldn't worry, I'm sure it'll be fine, and if it's not, it's honestly her problem. She knew what she was signing off on.

Re: advice please!!

this is something that always just boggles my mind about women. honestly no one needs to know nor care about what size dress you wear and you look so much better in something that fits and than something your stuffed into like a sausage.

i would make her pay the money to have panels put in and make it fit. in my honest opinion this was a selfish move on her part. even if she loses enough to get it to zip up chances are its still going to be tight and unfalttering. its very selfish that she would do that and have her spilling out of a too tight dress it can potentially ruin your photos. i would confront her and tell her how upset you are and you expect her to rectify the situation.
