Advice please...(sorta personal)

Original post by becca

Hi ladies, I'm new to the board but I have a question regarding my dress.

I have a scar on my breastbone (about 2 inches long and peaks above my cleavage) I am EXTREMELY self concious about it - I dont wear V-Necks or any neckline that shows it.

However, I am soooo upset about picking a wedding gown! I don't want to pick one just because it covers my scar, I want one that I really love! But I know that if it shows my scar that I will be SO self-conscious about it

So, my question to you girls is - do I pick a dress that I don't necessarily LOVE to cover up OR do I pick a dress that shows it and suffer through the self-consciousness?

Grrr...this is driving me nuts! While I've got good cleavage, I should be able to show it, instead I'm hiding it!!!

Any advice will be appreciated!!!

I am going along with everyone else. Wear the dress you love, and don't worry about the scar. You will find a way to hide it, or you may love a dress that it doesn't show. Good luck to you!

I think since you are self conscious about it you should look for ways to cover it. There are so many dresses out there I do not think you will have to purchase a dress you are not absolutely in love with.

You can either cover the scar with something such as dermablend or you can have the dress you fall in love with altered to cover the scar. You will be amazed what great alternations can do.

You will be beautiful. Do not worry.

I think you should go try on dresses and I have no doubt the one you fall in love with will be the one that looks the best and most beautiful on you, irregardless if the scar is showing.

I also have a scar like that right below my neck area and I didn't want to worry about it being noticable, so I chose to wear a dress that covered it (its a higher neck dress). I think the make up can cover the color but not the raised nature of the scar, and I didn't want to worry about having my make up smudges.

I think there are a lot of beautiful dresses that have higher neckline, especially somethign like a boatneck. Or perhaps, you may want to look into a gown that has a lacy / kind of see thoough patern on the top, such that the lacy pattern would hide the scar. Or you can get a strapless and add the lace on top of shoulder/chest area

I don't think anyone can answer that but yourself. Is there anyway to cover up the scar with either make up or another procedure? I'd call a dermatologist see if they could help. Myabe ask the dress shop if they can make it so it covers up part of your scar. Not sure what the dress looks like.

Dont let your scar dictate your life. I know it is easy to say - FH also has a scar that he is not comfortable with , although it doesnt affect him as much on an everyday basis- only when beach time rolls around. I tell him that he needs to realzie that the scar doesnt change who he is on the inside.

Find a dress that you love - you have the option of using makeup and if that isnt enough coverup then you can try a sheer neckline - i am looking into a dress like that - simply for the fact that i love them - but many also are studded with beeds or crystals - so that is another option that will cover the scar but not ruin the effect of showing some cleavage.

If it peaks through you can cover it with Derma blend. It is special make up that covers scars. I know Ulta carries it... Get the dress you love!
