affordable grooms cakes ...?

i'm actually looking to buy a cake shaped like a graduation cap (for FH's graduation party, not for the RD or anything) ...

Dortoni's quoted me $350 ...
CMNY Cakes quoted me $250 ...

this is WAAAAY too much money for a cake that feeds 15-20 people!

can anyone recommend a bakery that can do this for less?

Question...when you call the bakeries, are you saying the term 'groom's cake'? That might affect the price, if you are.

I was looking into getting a groom's cake but I just found out that it has to be with the same bakery that my RH uses. After all of my research I found a bakery I loved, and they are so nice and are willing to work with any budget! I was looking for a Yankee's cake and the prices were between $175 and $300 depending on the style. Very reasonable! The website is:

Have you tried Baked to Perfection in Port Washington?

For my sister's shower cake, the charged $6 per slice. For DH's groom's cake, they charged $8 per slice, but the baker gave us less expensive options. MIL just chose to go with the priciest option available!
