Any particular reason why? Its not THAT far out on the island so I was wondering if anyone had an inside scoop. TIA

I think because certain areas there are not safe....ex. drugs, etc.

I don't think so. Not that I have heard.
I think that it was an area that was kind of ignored for awhile. There are a lot of bungloos. It has the huge train station and such. It doesn't have the downtown area that many of the surrounding towns have near it. Many many young couples are moving into the area. The taxes in many areas are still very reasonable. But I think it's a pretty safe area.

We live there, about 1/2 mile from the Nesconset/Smithtown border in a really nice neighborhood. The neighborhoods are mixed--some are definitely nicer than others, but I feel safe there.

I think a big part of it might be, depending on the house, some are REALLY Close to LARGE power line towers. DH and I saw one, it was on top of one of these things! We didnt even stop! Also some are really close to the expressway and although its great for commuting, its not as desirable when its in your back yard. JMO
Thanks! About how long of a commute is it from there on the LIRR to Penn?

I lived with my mom for 6 weeks in Coram after college. Id drive to Ronk train station and take the 7:05 - arrive in Penn at 8:30.

I like Ronkonkoma and I think, along with the power lines, it suffers from not having a town or village.
