Affordable Photographer
Hi all -I need you recommendations. I am coming to NY to book my photographer in March and I need the names of affordable photographers $2000 and less. I would like all my negatives and the option to buy albums later rather than to be forced to get the in a package.
I have duet and Silver Fox on my list. Any other ideas?

Re: Affordable Photographer
I met with Peter Jacobsen yesterday (based in Manhattan) (nsgraham's recommendation on her budget page)He is in your price range, will give you the negatives in a nice book and provide one other small book that could be a parents album or just an extra one. He seems like a very nice guy. Don't know anyone who has used him so I can't say more than that.
He will do the album or provide you the info to have someone else do it (If I use him - I might have him do it - but he didn't seem to mind if I did it on my own)
Just so you know - it isn't really a huge cost saving since most of the books cost upwards of $1,000 but if you can do them yourself then it's a good idea to go with someone like this.
In the end - most photographers charge the same amount. Even the budget photographers are pretty much the same price from what I've seen. They charge less and you get less. It just depends how much you want to spend upfront.
Good luck.

That's basically true for the most part, although you can do your album yourself for around $500 Art Leather too- www.albumhouse.com or on eBay.

Re: Affordable Photographer
I am using Tom Weis . I found him on craigslist and he lists his prices starting at $2400 for what you describe. He's a photojournalist and to date has been a pleasure to work with. If you like his work, who knows, he may be able to work with your budget as well.Another option is Dominic at Twelfth Night Photo . My FSIL used him and was pleased.

Re: Affordable Photographer
Well, I want to purchase the albums after because my FI and I will pay for those and his parents will pay for the actual photographer. I know his parents just cant afford everything. Also, my FI really does not like photojournalists - so that is a problem.

Re: Affordable Photographer
My fiancee met with them first with Jessnyc711 and then I went with her on Thursday. Was to busy or we would have booked FRIDAY.We just booked today and Nicole just kept thanking my fiancee when she called to say we wanted to book with them . We are probably going for the diamond plus package. At that range the difference is small but what you get is excellent. We have a meeting with the photographers on Mon.
Myasmom asked for some VIDEO details
I have the 2003 prices but you may want to contact her directly and DEFINITELY MEET WITH THEM AND WORK YOUR MAGIC.
Here is what I have :
These are the video details for the packages so call and/or meet with them to discuss further prices and specific items. What I loved was that they were updated and prepared for new things coming out. Alot of places said in 5 months or so they would have a DVD burner, they might have more things ' in - house ' , etc. I just don't want photo and video vendors haggling over prices and what they promised each other and me.
*******
My fiancee bought me the Canon G5 for my bday and xmas. We are both into and have experience in alot of the most current technology so we understood alot of the terms BUT ALWAYS ask if you don't understand . Sometimes an example being shown more than once helps.
********
Ask about Promotions
Get specific descriptions and don't stop till you fully understand what each option includes or doesn't include.
Meeting them is one sure way to know what each feature looks like as far as effects go in the video, AND photo.
I loved the infrared pics and casual day pics.
We are going with the Diamond Plus for now, but for Video and Photo.
Please notify me and everyone else it things changes, as I will certainly do the same.
Best wishes to everyone,
Thomas

Re: Affordable Photographer
We are using Silverfox and we found them to be very affordable. It is all a la carte. You can get a lower amount of pics now and always add on after the wedding. You also get all of your negatives without a stamp. You can always blow them up or get an album just for the negatives. They do amazing work and are so nice!!

Re: Affordable Photographer
Check out ADA studios - they have offices in Smithtown and Shoreham. They have lots of different packages starting under $2000, with lots of options. Their pics are beautiful and I booked with Big John there, who I got a good rec for from a friend. Anthony is not very friendly or helpful, so I didn't even look to see how his pics are.
