afraid to ask...poll included!

Original post by SweetHeatherB

i don't really want to get into some huge political discussion, however i am curious as to who everyone is hoping will be our next president. Hope this doesn't start any fights, and if you really don't want to get into it, as I don't, then just vote and remain anonymous!

Re: afraid to ask...poll included!

Look, even if people are voting for 'not bush' as opposed to voting FOR someone, I think it's totally justified. We already know what Bush is about. Some people lke it and want more, some people don't like it. If you don't like the way the country is going, maybe you just want to give someone else a chance, since you already know what disasters bush can create. And I'm even more frightened of what he'll do as a lame duck.

ETA: I thin those are a lot of the reasons people are voting for Bush. They don't love Bush, they just are afraid to change and want stability in a time of conflict.

I think that this election will be as someone said..not necessarily the best candidate for the job but someone other than BUSH. Is is right..not for me but it may be a reality. I wish we had BAD candidat..GOOD candidate..but we have all bitter sweet.

Both candidates have negatives..way more than positives. Bush has 'ball$' but self intrest is his motivator. Kerry flip flops and wants to play by the numbers. I am glad that BUSh stood up to the U.N. Sometimes I think people are blind to what is in the real world when they say we should have ALOT of allies backing us in war and that it makes BUSh wrong for his actions because he didnt get permission/support. GET PERMISSION FOR WHAT. We get so worked up over prisoners being tortured by our soldiers..sorry my heart does not weep profusely... Not because I am heartless but because there is an ugly side to war that people dont see..These people kidnap, behead, rape and torture our soldiers and whoever else and we are expected to play nice..whatever. Kerry may be coming with a pipe dream that so many want to beleive will make our country better...i want to believe it too but his flip flopping and by the book policy scares me..what if we need immediate action..is he going to wait for permission?

I understand what you're saying, but I don't think it's okay to be a vigilante or renegade, especially when you're the president of the united states. I think that's what Bush is doing. And no matter what anyone else does to our soldiers, we can't just throw the geneva accords out the window. An eye for an eye and the whole world is blind. I don't know who the people they captured and tortured were, but they may not hae been and probably weren't the same people who have tortured our soldiers. So even if you have some twisyted sense of hammurabian justice, you're punishing the wrong people, which is the problem with the entire war, IMHO.

Naive,,this is what we are..I am not..most military you will find are not. Anyone who feels that because those few soldeirs were 'caught' and that its an act that we frown upon..may just have to read the unsensored version of how America became a super power. We didnt play nice..we just let the naive public beleive we do.. BUSH just showed us what really happens..something that is a big mistake and is costing him.

That is very true. But it is a huge problem.

As far as the spitting on soldiers thing, there's no evidence that that actually happened. It's an old wive's tale. There's nothing to say it didn't happen, but still..

Actually for those who lived during that time, it is known that it is not just a tale...as ugly as that may seem to be. And you don't know, just as I don't what he did or not do to protest. That's not the point. As it is said many times before, he can not decide on anything. I do not (that is me personally) believe that is someone that this country needs at this time. I don't want someone who isn't willing to take a stand (just like all the other great presidents that came before). It is not a party issue either...I actually am a registered democrat. I just educated myself with the facts of both men and decided, with an open mind, the best man for the job. Kerry is not it...and even though I don't agree with EVERYTHING Bush is about, the issues that are important to me are the ones I feel that Bush is more suited to deal with. That's all.

As far as the KKK goes, I don't see muslims converting because of Osoma Bin Laden (and as well they shouldn't because what Bin Laden is is not muslim), so I don't really understand the point.

Right now it scares me because I do not feel either one of these men should be running our country! I voted for anyone else

Re: afraid to ask...poll included!

The point about the KKK was that just because some people in a group do horrible things, we can't attribute those things to everyone in a group, i.e we can't say that all war protesters did bad things because some of them did.

ETS: I also think at a time like this, it is not the best idea to switch powers. This does not mean I will vote for Bush. I am still undecided, I will continue to watch the convention and make my decsion from there
