afraid to ask...poll included!

Original post by SweetHeatherB

i don't really want to get into some huge political discussion, however i am curious as to who everyone is hoping will be our next president. Hope this doesn't start any fights, and if you really don't want to get into it, as I don't, then just vote and remain anonymous!

I have recently been pondering the decision of NOT VOTING AT ALL. Now, I know that it's irresponsible in many ways, but I see no point in it. This country's headed in the wrong direction no matter what and my vote certainly will not change that.

this is EXACTLY how i feel -- i'm more than likely not voting for president. I'll vote in the other elections, but at least this way, whatever happens, it won;t be the result of my endorsement

Exaclty, at least I know my vote will mean at least a LITTLE SOMETHING in the other elections. It's just so frustrating. I'm not a political person, but this time of year, I get very depressed that I have to feel so insignificant in a country where my opinions are supposed to count.

PLEASE -- our votes don't count -- the electoral votes decide elections not popular votes. And most elections are won before election day. I am sure, as we speak, money is exchanging hands by both side to buy votes from different states. There's no honesty, there's no integrity, so why bother.

whoa...it is a dead heat 60 votes each with 20 to the 'Anyone Else' candidate!!!!

A man after my own political heart! I'm so with you on all that! Why bother!

not to sound like an idealist, but then maybe becoming involved in your local and state elections would be more to your advantage... and also, there is a lobby to reconfigure or eliminate the electoral college.....now there's a petition I personally would be happy to sign..JMHO

Re: afraid to ask...poll included!

OK.. here's my 2 cents..

Bush scares me on the future.. domestically.. economics, the deficit, Social Security. I think Kerry would do better here.

Kerry scares me on issues of foreign policy. I see him as weak and indecisive. He's stiff and not very likable. I get an elitist vibe off of him. AND I like how Bush said F.U. to the UN. I think the UN is the worst thing ever. The principles are good but the execution of said principles is abysmal.

For example.. feel free to read up on the ongoing situation in Sudan. Nobody in the UN is doing a damn thing to stop the killing.

A leader needs to take stands and keep to them. A leader needs to be strong-willed to do what they think is right in spite of an outcry or opposition. To be honest --

I want a president I can be proud of. Not a numb-skull. As well, not a wishy-washy wanna-be either.

Who do I choose?

Well, I guess I am in the third party category.

There is no way in hell I can vote for the undisputed most LIBERAL senator in the entire country for president.

God only knows how he will flip-flop if he actually gets the oval office.

4 more years of Bush for me.

I can't see him (Kerry) doing anything in office. He does not have a position on anything. Who would want that for a president in this day and age? Some of the 'issues' he is making a big deal of in his platform are not going to be resolved by him being president. I would rather have Bush than someone who does not know what to believe in or what to do about anything. I can't believe (and no offense to anyone please) that anyone would want a president like that! Although I too believe in women's rights and stem cell research, there are some issues that I feel are more of a priority right now and Kerry (and Kerry can't seem to make a firm decision on those issues either!) is just not the one to address that. Kerry has no 'backbone' ??? Hmmm.. didn't the man serve in Vietnam? Didn't he turn his boat INTO enemy fire to save a fellow soldier? YES! That sounds like someone with a backbone to me....

...Yes, and he came home and protested the war and was unsupportive of his fellow troops...FLIP FLOP...don't forget how people 'protested' during Vietnam. It's a lot different than today. People actually spit on soldiers as they were comming home. Kerry has no political backbone.

Re: afraid to ask...poll included!

the point is that he SERVED...he didn't come up with a lame excuse on why he couldn't...he served his time and his country, even though he might not have agreed...he DID his civil duty...

Re: afraid to ask...poll included!

I think people keep bringing up Kerry's war record because he brought it up. He made it the centerpiece of his convention.

Most people have a problem, not with his service, but with what he did when he came home. He said he committed atrocities and that he saw them on a daily basis. His stories were untrue. How come he never apologized?

By the way...Kerry did do his civil duty by serving in Vietnam. But, did he carry out his duty as a political 'leader' by blowing off 76% of intelligence hearings????

Re: afraid to ask...poll included!

You know I have to say this.. I really don't give a DAMN what Kerry did or didnt do in Vietnam. I don't care what Bush did or didn't do in Vietnam.

Bush was there when we needed him and did what I wanted him to do. He didnt need a committee or a long drawn out delay to poll the masses and make sure it was politically safe to act. He went straight to the UN and played his cards. No purple heart necessary.

Kerry seems so weak. He just doesn't strike me as a 'do it' type of guy. He seems like he goes with whatever is in best interest of his party or his career at the time. I don't actually mind this.. it's politics afterall, but I want to know what he'll do in this day and age of terrorism.

Enough about what they did or didnt do in Vietnam, tell me what they did or didnt do in the time of 9/11.

Kerry flip flopped, plain and simple. I'd have respected him more if he had said, 'we did what we needed to do and I support Bush on that, but now it's time for work here at home' or something like that.

Enough of both wars, Mr. Kerry. Tell me what you are planning to do with my life. Not what you WANT the congress to do (taxes, etc) what you SERIOUSLY have as an agenda. Stop the BS and give me some real issues.

He's beginning to come off as a whiner to me. 'swiftboats lied about me -boohoo' gimme a break. In a day and age when the public is willing to judge a man on the actions of his teenage daughters of 3 years past, you expect the public to ignore a few jabs at you? It's politics my boy, learn from Bush a little, ROLL with the punches and give the public something ELSE to chew on.

I think Kerry's only REAL support right now is folks who hate Bush. That's sad. I'd hate to be chosen not based on my values, my agenda or what I have to offer but only because you don't like the other guy. LAME The media did it's job Mr. Kerry, they've got every angle on everything to make Bush look bad (granted it's not hard, but they're having a field day with it). Now that the media has to question you about ads, you squirm and hide? Why? If you really have nothing to hide, then just face it. It's realy not that big of a deal, hell the Favorite President of these folks Mr. Clinton smoked pot, lied to America, Admitted it and draft dodged - they loved him, what's to lose?

*hops off soapbox*
