afraid to ask...poll included!

Original post by SweetHeatherB

i don't really want to get into some huge political discussion, however i am curious as to who everyone is hoping will be our next president. Hope this doesn't start any fights, and if you really don't want to get into it, as I don't, then just vote and remain anonymous!

Being indecisive, unsure, wishy-washy...Kerry.

Kerry has absolutely no backbone.

Does nearly constant deception mean that a candidate has a backbone?

My vote as of 10:04 am on Tuesday August 31st goes to Bush. Will that change? Maybe.

ETA: I think Bush is just the better of two 'not so goods' AS OF RIGHT NOW!

That site takes a number of this so out of context, it's not even worth responding about.

Don - What about Nader, you should definilty get out there and vote, even if you don't want Bush or Kerry. By supporting the independant you can maybe make the US have more then 2 party system.

Just thinking Kerry as our president scares me!!!!

Me too! I'm happy someone else feels this way.

In response to 'they both flip flop', no one in recent history has changed his votes and his statements to fit the audience more than John Kerry.

Um... I'm a little confused about this.

Bush's MAIN platform has been that he is the man to 'win the war on terror' and that we are 'winning the war on terror'

Yesterday, he was interviewed by Matt Lauer and said that we cannot 'win the war on terror'

is that not a FLIP FLOP????

I agree!! Given everyone's disillusion with the candidates, it's totally possible Nader might finally get his 6%! I'm not really about what the Green Party stands for but I think it would be wonderful to have a funded third party!

You can't be serious that you're comparing that singular statement (which, by the way, you have really taken out of context) to Kerry's 14 year record of doing this!! I know the flaws and weaknesses in the candidate I support, you should be honest with yourself and know the ones in the candidate you support as well.

Re: afraid to ask...poll included!

I don't see changing your mind when presented with additional information as a fault- I see that as a strenght.

I don't think I've taken his statement out of context as I watched the whole interview. I understand he said he doesn't think we can 'win' it in the traditional sense- I know exactly what he said- but I still don't think he was very smart to say that as it is the ONLY thing he has to stand on. That is his only strength.

Also regarding Bush and HIS flip flopping-

Bush has flip flopped on the purpose of the tax cuts back when he was elected the first time- first it was b/c we had a surplus and he needed to give extra $ back to the people, then it was b/c we were in a recession and it would strenghten the economy (that's when we found out there was less of a surplus than anticipated)- which it did not.

Bush basically is the worst type of flip flopper- he makes up his mind of what he wants to do and then he retrofits any excuse to do so..

Any number of Republican attacks on people who disagree with them are also based on information and quotations taken out of context. Fight fire with fire, I say.

As you said yourself, and I think you're absolutely right about this, 'I know the flaws and weaknesses in the candidate I support, you should be honest with yourself and know the ones in the candidate you support as well.' Some Democrats' and Independents' attacks on Bush and his administration are based on out-of-context material, but that's precisely the same strategy being repeatedly used by Bush et al.

Plus, I don't think this entire, massive database of the administration's deceptions -- compiled from a wide variety of sources -- is taken out of context. Some, but not all.

take a deep breath...

Kerry has no 'backbone' ??? Hmmm.. didn't the man serve in Vietnam? Didn't he turn his boat INTO enemy fire to save a fellow soldier? YES! That sounds like someone with a backbone to me....

and as far as flip flopping goes...

President Bush on April 13th, 2004:
'One of the interesting things people ask me, now that we are asking questions, is, 'Can you ever win the war on terror?' Of course you can.'

President Bush on August 30th 2004:
'I don't think you can win it,' Mr. Bush replied. 'But I think you can create conditions so that those who use terror as a tool are less acceptable in parts of the world.'

President Bush on August 31st 2004:
'We meet today in a time of war for our country, a war we did not start yet one that we will win,' Mr. Bush said.

as for me... I am voting for the guy who actually reads....

P.S. I have a feeling this will come up next...the infamous '87 billion'... Yes... Kerry did vote for it before he voted against it... and guess what? Practically every Republican Senator did the opposite... they voted AGAINST it before the voted for it.... it is called politics...

.... exhale...

I'm thinking Bush is going to get a lot of support simply because some people who may not otherwise have an opinion, will want to stay with him, just to avoid change in mid-stream with the war in Iraq.

By the way .. are we still looking for Osama bin Laden???!!!

(So much for not getting 'into some huge political discussion.')

True, we are still looking for OBL...I hope we find him!! (Too bad Clinton didn't take up that offer to have him turned over to American forces way back when!)

But who are we not looking for?? A full 3/4 of the senior Al-Qaeda leadership who have been killed or captured during Bush's tenure.

FOUR MORE YEARS!!!!

I don't like Bush b/c he let members of the Saudi Royal family out of the US WITH NO QUESTIONING on 9/12 when NO ONE ELSE WAS ALLOWED TO FLY - even organs for organ donations could not be flown to hospitals
