Okay, I'm officially a member of the Ebony board. I started a thread on make-up artists. so everyone can post their information over there.

Re: AFRICAN-AMERICAN BRIDES

Does anyone know how much a stylist typically charges to style braids in an updo? Just to style not to put the braids in.

Re: AFRICAN-AMERICAN BRIDES

Question ladies,

Do you know of any brides that wore their hair in braids? How are tiara and veil normally put in? DO they use combs? If so do you think it will be difficult to put a tiara in if I have braids?

Re: AFRICAN-AMERICAN BRIDES

Marc_Rai...the Ebony board was started last year by way of a complaint that I did with the people who own this site....they responded pretty quickly....this post was started by me as well because we all had so many questions and no real way of bonding and sharing on the board...I've crossed over to the married world since last August 2004 so I'm on not a lot these days but I expect all the Women/Brides of Color to keep it alive!!!

Re: AFRICAN-AMERICAN BRIDES

Hi--I have no idea how I ended up in this thread. I'm white. AND I mean really pale white at that. I think I opened this threat because my FH and I are planning the sterotype Jewish wedding and I have become SO curious about how wedding planning may be different from one ethnic group to another, even though most of us are New Yorkers.

I'm not an expert on black hair (obviously) but when I worked in Jamaica, Queens, there were tons of local salons that worked on African-America women. (near Parsons Blvd and near the LIRR station)

As for makeup, I look for a makeup artist whose website shows women of many racial backrounds. I figure that an artist needs more skill to work on wide range of facial features, must be confident in her work to show the full variety of people she can work on, and is open minded enough not to just work from the same formula all the time!!!!

The only thing dark about me is the rings under my eyes--not a good look, so I need good makeup!!!!!

Bravo to you. I love people with open minds.
Godd makeup is good makeup and I agree a true make up artist should know how to make up any one.
