The question is basically....
After the wedding is done even after the usual gifts on 150-200 avg will you make back the $$$ you spent.

We got back 2/3 of what we sopent which isnt bad but the $$ is not that important...its just curiosity

We set a budget. God Laughed. Went WAY over budget.

Now, we maybe get 1/3 back - hopefully enough for the honeymoon AND since way over budge, will have CREDIT CARD Bills

!!!!

But its a Wedding and worth it!

Right?

Do you mean break even just for the hall? Honestly, I don't think so. For the whole wedding? Never.

Not sure about breaking even - probably not, however with that being said, I would rather have a very small, intimate wedding than go into steep debt for one day. I would either plan it for a time when I can save enough or have a smaller wedding. JMO. FH & I sat down and said we can save X per month, how many months do we need to get to our plan and we came up with a time-frame and then planned out wedding.

I think what matters is the celebration regardless of how much you spent. I think it's seldom that anyone actually breaks even or comes close but hopefully I'm the exception. We are paying for the whole wedding ourselves and made a budget and so far we are right on track. We have the money for the wedding already so no debts afterwards. So whatever our guests want to give, it's welcome.

That's a very healthy viewpoint.

FH is counting on making most of the money back, I'm very doubtful. We're on track and trying not to put too much on the credit cards, but I have a feeling something is going to blindside me near the end. Taxes or tips or something stupid I didn't think of.

Overall on all wedding expenses, I don't even think we'll get half back. Fotunately, my parents paid for the reception and FILs gave us money, so we'll definitley get more than we've spent out of our own two pockets.

I have crazy expectations of my family and the in-laws and I think we are going to make money. I know alot of the people on my side show their love with gifts.

we didn't break even...but we definitely ended up a lot closer than i thought we would...our guests were VERY generous!!!
