After Birth

Did the hospital you delivered at (or will deliver at) allow you to keep the baby all the time? If so, did you? Or, did you give it back to the nursery?

Re: After Birth

Sophie had to be in the NICU and I was being monitored for 24 hours, so we didnt' get to see each other for 24 whole hours!!!

BUT - my girlfriend who delivered two weeks after me got to keep her baby with her in the room. She sent him back to the nursery when she needed rest.

Re: After Birth

My hospital allowed new moms to keep their babies with them whenever there were no visitors present (other than the father and grandparents). I sent Nicolas back to the nursery at about 10:00 each night, and got him back at about 9:00 each morning, but other than that he was with me.

Damien stayed in my room from 9am to 9pm. They did however bring him to me whenever he needed to nurse.

Believe me you will appreciate being able to sleep, especially after you bring the baby home

Molly was in the nursery for a few hours while I was in recovery, then back in the nusery day 1 during a 2 hour visiting time. 99.9% of the rest of the time I kept her with me and am very glad that I did.

I had Emma in the room almost 24-7. She was in the nursery when I NEEDED sleep but they brought her to me every hour or 2 so she could nurse.

Re: After Birth

I was curious what other people did that breastfed only because my hospital (providing of course that everything is OK) allows the baby with the mother the whole time you are there. Well, there is a two hour period after delivery but other than that. I am thinking that I won't be able to give the baby back, but we'll see how it goes.

The first night Briana was bought to me every three hours for nursing. I was in no condition to keep her. However for the rest of my stay, she was basically with me.

My hospital also let the baby stay in the room the entire time except during sibling hours, all babies on the floor had to go back to the nursery. I put Emily in the nursery at night so I could sleep some hours and they woke me up at feeding times so I could feed her the first night and the second night I asked to sleep! But my hospital keeps changing there policy because when I had my daughter who is 3 - babies weren't allowed in the room during any visiting hrs.

My hospital allows you to keep the baby in your room with you all day.
