Who is having an after party and what are you doing?
We are having an afternoon wedding, so we are trying to decide.
There is a Band in town that FH and I really like, and we think it would be awesome to go to the concert after the reception, but clearly not everyone woudl be able to or even want to go, but a LOT of our friends are really fond of the band. And we don't want to make it seem like people have to pay to hang out with us.
But we just don't have the money to host something elaborate ourselves. How is everyone else handling this?

That's a nice idea. My wedding will be till midnight so we won't be having an after party, just breakfast the morning after.

we are having an afternoon wedding... half the guests will be from OOT, so a LOT of people are staying at the hotel...we had thought about getting like the conference room at the hotel for an afterparty, but it is really expensive to do that - so we figured so many people would have rooms, we'll just party in peoples rooms ... BUT we are NOT telling anyone which room is ours!

We're having a twilight affair, so our reception will end around 10pm. We're having our afterparty at the hotel lounge where we and our out of town guests will be staying. We're just paying the $50 bartender charge for the hotel to keep the lounge open from 11pm to 2am. It will be a cash bar at that point.

A concert afterwards is risky IMO, because, as you said, people will have to pay to get in, andalso, how much talking/socializing can you really do at a concert? The music is usually too loud to spend quality time with your guests. Just out of curiosity,which band is it? The only way you may get a turnout at a concert is if it was some 'legendary' 'timeless' concert with a broad appeal (like maybe Billy Joel/Elton John?)...
Are you having out of town guests stay at a hotel? If you are, maybe you could have an afterparty at the hotel bar. People could just hang out and buy each other drinks....I've been to after parties like this and it has been really great, especially for your young crowd & friends.

Our wedding is Saturday evening. My FILs are hosting a brunch on Sunday for those staying in the hotel & close family. Since we have a lot of OOT guests they thought this would be nice. FI and I will attend, because we aren't leaving for our honeymoon until Mon am.

we might be having an afternoon affair but we're not sure yet..if it is in the afternoom we are going to just stay at the same hotel as our guests and party in the lounge area there..

We are renting out a bar Reception ends at midnight so from 12:00 to 2:00 with cash bar

we had an after party. Our reception ended at 7 and we told everyone to meet us at a bar near the hotel and reception area. We got the bar manager to throw in a small buffet at no cost-b/c we were literally bringing tons of business to him..
you dont have to shell out more money-the after party is just a hang out- people buy their own drinks, etc...

We are all stying at the same hotel so we'll be aprtying in the bar in the lobby. I will not being for everyone's drinks though. Who knows...maybe someone will buy me a drink!!!!! HA!

We had an afternoon wedding, and the reception ended at 5:30, so my parents rented out a room in a hotel nearby, and informally mentioned to people at the wedding that they would be hosting an after party at the hotel. It was a lot of fun, and it lasted until almost midnight. The hotel was the one that we blocked rooms at, and had our rehearsal dinner at, and the staff there was incredible!!! They also had little snacks and drinks for people.

we will probably all go back to the hotel that my out of town guests are staying at and hopefully get a conference room or something...or if our house is finished being built by then (which it should be), we will probably just invite everyone back to the house...nothing elaborate though

Mine won't be over until 1:00 AM - only breakfast the next day.

Our wedding will be over around midnight and we have rooms blocked at a motel with no bar or conference room. Fortunately, about a block away is a bar. We'll all just wind up going there. I'm going to see what kind of place it is and if anything I'll pay for a DJ to come in, but I will not be paying for drinks.

Our wedding ended at 11:30 on Sat night. We went back to the hotel and my dad started a tab for those that came back at the bar. The on Sunday we had a brunch for the bridal party and those that stayed over at the Wyndham.
