Having trouble deciding whether or not to do the after party that Carlyle offers which is A reggae band playing for an hr open bar cigar roller and banana foster and some fruits served or do the vienese hr?? Initially my fiance and I wanted to do the after party (more expensive then the vienese hr) but now I'm not sure what the guests would rather and we are getting a good deal with the vienese hr and they arent budging on the after party..the after party sounds different and more enteraining but you think guests would rather do something like that then a vienese hr??

Re: AFTER PARTY OR VIENESE HR???
I wanted to do both for my wedding but I know people that have done the after hours and they said like hardly anybody stayed. So for me...it's just an unnecessary expense. I think you should think about what kind of atmosphere would be more important to you guys and thats how to decide which one to have.

Re: AFTER PARTY OR VIENESE HR???
Personally, I like the idea of the after party. It is definitely different and if it were me, I would think that my guests would enjoy it. You mentioned it is more expensive, so I would also consider your budget. If it is going to be difficult on your budget to fit this in, then the vienese hour is definitely a nice alternative. If the money is not a concern, I would do the after party.
Good Luck with whatever you choose.

Re: AFTER PARTY OR VIENESE HR???
This is dependant on your family really... My family is Italian, and when I say Italian I mean literally came on the boat. My generation is 1st generation American. So my family would NOT appreciate a reggae band and hand rolled cigars as much as they would appreciate cannolis and a chocolate fountain!
Then again, this is YOUR day. Do what you please, but keep in mind that happy guests make a happIER wedding!!!
Best of luck to you!

Re: AFTER PARTY OR VIENESE HR???
I went to a wedding at the Carlyle and they had both the after party as well as the Viennese Hour. The after party is lovely and very classy, but they had a DJ (The wedding entertainment was a band so a DJ was different). I think you should go with what you think your guests would enjoy the most. You should also consider if people on your guest list will want to stay later than usual. If not, go for the Viennese.

Re: AFTER PARTY OR VIENESE HR???
We are doing an after hour instead of a VH.
My thoughts on a VH is that once people are finally all on the dance floor, a little liquered up and ready to party, we then pull them to get on a dessert line.
I like the after hours, bc most dont usually stay and its nice bc its all your close friends and fam

Well you havea few things to consider....can you swing the price of the after party if you chose it....do you have guests that like to party and would stay making it worth it....and if you do the viennese you could always say hey afterwards we're going here and would love for everyone to come with us and keep the party going

Re: AFTER PARTY OR VIENESE HR???
Not to sound like a repeat....but you have to know your guests. When I went to see the Carltun, I loved the after-party room. My family and friends would have definetely stayed.
Is there any way you can hold off on booking either? Maybe ask around to your family and friends to get an idea as to who would attend? Could you include the after-party as part of your RSVP in your invite? No place is going to turn away the opportunity to make extra money if you decide on a later date to add it on.
Vita930 got married at the Carltun in May -- I believe she also did the after-party. If you FM her, maybe she can give you some feedback
