My fiancee and I had a huge fight yesterday. Since the hotel's bar where we will be spending our wedding night will be closed by the time we leave the reception hall, he wants to go down the block to some random bar to keep 'celebrating' with his friends and the out of town guests who are staying at the hotel. I'm disappointed because I envisioned us going back to our room after the reception, afterall we just partied at the reception for 4 hours!!! And I just hate imagining myself in my huge puffy dress crammed into some bar, with the local college kids.
I guess I just feel disappointed, maybe I am overeacting? What do you think. Thanks for your help!!

Re: After reception uestion- please help
To be honest, My FH wanted to do that too...Then when we were discussing it again I mentioned to him that we were all going to be up early...and we should see how we feel after the reception...
Just speak with him rationally and I am sure you will work it out....Because you guys are just going to be so tired from a long wedding day!!!! My sugestion would be, lets see how we feel after the reception....
HTH! Good luck

I asked my fh if he wanted an 'after-party' and he said no. When I thought about it, i realized he was right. I don't think that you're overreacting. The day is so long and monumental, you will bith be exhausted and NEED to spend that alone time together. Besides, when are you leaving for your HM?

Re: After reception uestion- please help
Just saying if you do the bar thing after the reception take your dress off. I have been to a bar that a wedding party stopped at just after the reception was over and honestly after she came out of the bathroom with her dress she was horrified on how dirty and nasty it got. So do change.
I would talk to fh and simply say that you feel after the entire day is over with you and him most likely will not be feeling up to the party. Maybe say well if we are still in the mood for the after party you guys can get changed and show up for a hour or so then leave. That is typically what happens at the after party - you stay for a hour or so and leave.

do you have the suite at the hotel? You could always compromise and say he can have a handful of friends back to the room for an hour, we did this with a few out of town friends that we never get a chance to see. I talked about the wedding with the girls and got the dress off.. the guys surprisingly were low key and caught up and had some beers....

I have been to a lot of wedding with after parties, and unless the party was actually IN the hotel, the bride took her dress off. Why don't you buy a cute little white dress to change into, that way you are still the 'bride' but an after hours version!

my fh isn't so much of a partier.. I'm not really.. but I'm the one who wants to keep the night going forever... I guess when it gets a little closer to the wedding we will decide.. but I don't think you're overreacting.. if that's what you want.. you should definitely let him know how strongly you feel about it!!!
good luck!

Re: After reception uestion- please help
My FH's cousin payed for the bar at the hotel to stay open after her wedding so her guests could enjoy a few more drinks...is that a possibility?
I wouldn't want to go somewhere else either...EW keeps a bar open for the weddings going on and I am soo looking forward to it...I hope things work out.

I agree, I definitely wouldn't go to a random bar after the wedding ... especially not in my gown!
The suggestion above was a good one ... to look into paying extra to keep the hotel bar open.
Or maybe you can pay for use of one of the conference rooms, and just have some beer in a cooler.
After our friends wedding in Pittsburgh, they used a conference room and all the guys had a huge game of poker ... and the gals sat on the other side of the room and just hung out. BUT everyone went up to their room to change first into comfy clothes!

For my sisters wedding we just bought beer and other liquor back to one of the rooms and kept the party going there. Then as people got tired, they went to their rooms

I wouldn't want to go to some random bar either. I plan on going back to my hotel room with FH with a nice bottle of wine or champagne and..............well....you know.

I agree with you! My wedding was at 11:30 and I can tell you I was up at like 4 starting to get everything together. My DH was sleeping in (because he could and we had our rehearsal dinner the night before)
He planned on doing something after the wedding.. but after a long day hes probably going to change his mind anyway. We were so tired we went back to our hotel room, took off our clothes and fell asleep!!!!
I was sosooooo glad we didnt plan on doing anything after. I was so tired my eyes burned!

I would not worry too much! You will be so tired....and so will FH that we may just crash in your hotel room and notgo anywhere. If you do and it's not at the hotel, I would advice to change.

Re: After reception uestion- please help
OK, I may be showing a TON of naivete here, but just out of curiosity, why do the bride and groom go to a hotel room after? I plan on getting married and having the reception pretty close to home (less than 10 minute drive) and was thinking we would just go back to the house. (and have some people over for an after-party if FH wanted one)
Is it a proximity issue, or a tradition I haven't heard of, or just an excuse to stay somewhere other than home?

Re: After reception uestion- please help
We are getting a bridal suite in a hotel near the RH and having beer, wine and champagne as well as PIzzas delivered so that we can hang out with our closest friends. We have a regular room booked so that when we are tired or done partying we can go back to our room and everyone else can stay and hang out as long as they want!
