My fiancee and I had a huge fight yesterday. Since the hotel's bar where we will be spending our wedding night will be closed by the time we leave the reception hall, he wants to go down the block to some random bar to keep 'celebrating' with his friends and the out of town guests who are staying at the hotel. I'm disappointed because I envisioned us going back to our room after the reception, afterall we just partied at the reception for 4 hours!!! And I just hate imagining myself in my huge puffy dress crammed into some bar, with the local college kids.
I guess I just feel disappointed, maybe I am overeacting? What do you think. Thanks for your help!!

OK, I may be showing a TON of naivete here, but just out of curiosity, why do the bride and groom go to a hotel room after? I plan on getting married and having the reception pretty close to home (less than 10 minute drive) and was thinking we would just go back to the house. (and have some people over for an after-party if FH wanted one)
Is it a proximity issue, or a tradition I haven't heard of, or just an excuse to stay somewhere other than home?
Honestly it is for people who are far away from their home to reception or for people who have money to spend on a hotel who want to stay with their own of town guests for maybe the morning brunch thing.
FH and i are going home after the reception and if we are up for it maybe take a car service to meet up with some people for a after part (but i highly doubt it) No one i have ever gone to a wedding to had stayed a hotel for their wedding night unless the reception was far away from their home OR they were leaving for a honeymoon the next day so they stayed near the airport.
It really isn't a must and to me I rather not stay near my family or fh's family the night of our wedding. If I do go out partying after the reception i will do it in my regular clothes and the bar I always go to with my friends and go home and sleep in my bed.
