After yesterday's chat w/ FMIL, FH is still so hurt!

I've posted a bunch of times about the drama going on with where FH & I will be living. FILs are being jerks. FH wanted me, his sister and his mom to sit down and discuss it calmly. FH and his dad are the ones who bring in the tempers.

His parents and sister think FH needs to be there, too. So, around 10am this morning, we're going to FSIL's house to sit down and hash this out

I will know more later today b/c I am hoping that whatever decision gets made today is IT! We cant keep doing this! I'll let you girls know the final outcome!

Poor FH is still so angry about this housing thing...

Well, the dreaded chat took us nearly 5 hours!!!!!

FFIL didn't end up coming b/c he didn't feel good, so it was just me & FH, FMIL & FSIL. FSIL was there to mediate and she was truly great so I am def glad she was there.

FMIL is keeping our rent at $1200/month but she is gonna pay the homeowners insurance and the taxes (she had wanted us to pay homeowners on TOP of the rent!). In return, she wants us paying a guy to do the lawns every 2 weeks b/c she doesn't trust that FH will do it routinely.

FMIL & FSIL are gonna come to the house next weekend to start getting rid of Grandpa's stuff, and Grandma's, too. Meanwhile, we need to start cleaning up FH's stuff (he's not the neatest guy).

FH has decided that he is gonna fix the upstairs hallway where he had started spackling months ago and then stopped when FIL's started all this nonsense. He says that is all we're doing though b/c he's tired of wasting his money and his time to do things to the house that we're only 'renting.' I can't say I blame him. He is still so angry and bitter that they are even doing this to us. I kept telling him that if he isn't eventually gonna get over the anger, we should just move out now, b/c we can't live like this, you know?

The thing that bothers me the most is that I don't think we're ever going to feel like it's 'our' place, you know? I plan to do what I can to make it as much 'us' as possible, but until we officially own it (which could be years from now, when Grandma passes away), I doubt we'll be doing much ::sigh::

Update: FH didn't join them for the Mother's Day dinner at his sister's house tonight b/c he is still so hurt and angry and just didn't want to be near them after yesterday. I can't say I totally blame him. He did at least call to wish his mom and grandmother a Happy Mother's Day, but then of course he got $h*t from his mom b/c he wasn't coming to dinner. UCK!

sorry to hear that, we are in similar situation, we live in FFILs house while he lives with his girlfriend and we pay for everything, mortgage, insurance, taxes, lawn guys, repairs, and we have nothing saying we will get anything for all the work we have done, so we have made it livable and will not do any major work on the house, and when we start looking for a house and find 1 FFIL will have to come up with some plan or sell it.....
i feel your pain it is def not the best situation to be in...

I'm so sorry! I know it can be stressful! I'm glad that at least you guys are sitting down talking to each other but it's so hard. You will be able to make it your own don't worry! It may take a little time but it will definitely get there!

I'm so sorry to hear this!!! for you and FH!
If they are still making you pay $1200, what is holding you guys back from finding your own place? You could probably find an apt for less than that!!

Wow...I can't believe this is all going on. I still don't truly understand why you guys chose to live there? $1200 isn't cheap and You can definitely find a nice place of your own for around that much. At least then maybe he can start to feel better about the situation. I agree with you that if he can't get over it then you should leave....I mean i guess i understand his parents wanting money if they have to pay for it...and if you didn't live there then someone else would pay to live there...but to demand all these things about the yard and stuff it tough. Most places i have rented from paid for the lawn service....hang in there...but personally I would GET OUT!

Oh we've had 2 sit downs already and FH and I decided we're done with his side of the family. It still hurts but enough is enough.
