Afternoon or evening?

Afternoon or evening?

So I just got back from looking at RHs and up until today I always thought I was going to do a Saturday evening wedding. After seeing the shocking difference in price, I'm starting to think about the possibility of an afternoon wedding. Is anyone having an afternoon wedding? What are your thoughts on it? Any feedback would really be appreciated! TIA

I'm having a Friday night wedding. One of the reasons I'm not having an afternoon wedding is because I went to a couple of them and I didn't like that it was bright in the hall. I felt that it made people less likely to dance and drink. That was just my experience.

I origianlly thought of doing a Friday night in the winter becasue it is cheaper but, I am doing Thurday night in the summer and it is much cheaper!!!! I cant see myself getting up at the crack of dawn to get ready and all. That's just me. I say of you reallt want that night wedding try a Thurs, Fri or Sunday.

I'm very excited about my sun afternoon wedding as well!!!!!!!

Yes, there tends to be a pretty large price difference which is always good... A thread was started abuot this topic a couple weeks ago & the concensus was pretty much that people have just as much fun at afternoon weddings than they do evening... Just as much dancing and drinking and being silly...

The only thing I am not thrilled about is the time of the ceremony which means I have to be up at the crack of dawn to start getting ready and everything... Only downside that I see...

For me, I wanted a more casual feeling to my wedding and an afternoon made more sense in my mind (although there are girls that have had very formal afternoon weddings in the past)

I also like that guests can party all day long (with an afterparty) as oppossed to people leaving the reception a bit earlier because some run so late into the evening

Just remember, because you will be the first wedding... there may be one in your room after you which means (in most cases) you cant add on extra time

That's a great point!!!! The downside to my Friday night wedding is people could be tired and leave early! I've seen that happen too.

The price is unbelievable... we're looking at like around $30 difference per person. Besides that, we absolutely loved Westbury Manor and the room they could put us in at night was kind of on the small side - the max is 140 and we'd probably be around that number. Can't book the manor room without a 225 minimum on Sat evening - I'd have to invite people off the street to meet 225 requirement. Afternoon minimum in the manor room is 150 - we can do that. Plus I'm thinking with the money we save we can book a few suites at a hotel and have an after party... think people would be into that? It's Halloween so I think people would be into extending the day. What do you all think?

08er crashing here. Some downfalls of afternoon weddings would be that you have to get up really earlier to do make-up and hair depending on the church time/ceremony time. Usually they are around 9am or 10am which would mean you would have to start make-up at at least 5am if alot of people are getting hair and make-up done by the same person. Also my experiences going to both afternoon weddings and evening weddings I felt like I got more into the evening weddings both dancing and drinking. JMO. There is a big price difference though.

I am planning on having a Thurs evening wedding. One factor is the price per plate on weekend as opposed to weekday. You have to do whatever works better for you and your finances.

I am doing my church at 11am and cocktail hour starts at 1pm. After the reception which ends at 6pm, we are partying it up at the garden city hotel.

Re: Afternoon or evening?

I am seriously starting to like the idea of a saturday afternoon wedding more and more. I also thought i was set on saturday PM. I have a lot of OOT guests coming to my wedding so i feel like with a saturday afternoon, they can take their time on friday night getting to the wedding. I see a lot of girls mentioning that they had an after party then if they have the afternoon wedding which sounds like a ton of fun! I know my family and friends love a good party so they would be all about the after party. I would have it (or at least try to have it) at wherever my host hotel is so that no one has to drive anywhere after. I say if it's better for you (budget wise) then go for it! By any chance did you ask about friday night? was saturday afternoon cheaper then friday night?

We're having a Sunday evening wedding. I always knew I wanted an evening wedding, but when we saw the difference in price between sat and sun night, we decided to go the Sunday evening route. Best of luck, and i'm sure you'll be happy with whatever you end up choosing!

We are unsure at this point but we do not want our guest out drunk late at night since some of them will be going far...SO I believe we're going to choose an afternoon wedding!
