Afternoon or Evening Wedding...NEED HELP PLEASE!!!
Okay, I am going to put a deposit on my reception hall next week (Swan Club hopefully), but anyway i'm confused on whether to have an afternoon or evening wedding. (I wish we could do it on a saturday night but we just don't have the money for it). We decided to do it on sunday instead.
We wanted sunday afternoon because we thought people would most likely leave early if we had it at night (also evening is more expensive). Now I don't know what to do. We are having it in the summer time which means that it will still be light when our wedding was over.
Has anyone ever been to a sunday afternoon wedding or an afternoon wedding at all? how did you like it? Also do you think that an evening wedding is better?
Really need the help!!!..Thanx

Why not try Friday night? That's what we are doing..usually the same $$ as Sunday afternoon.
IMO I don't really like afternoon weddings. I never even thought of having one. We went to one recently and it just doesn't feel like a wedding. It just felt like a party.
On the good side, the Swan Club has very pretty grounds that you will be able to view.

I have only been to one wedding on a Sunday afternoon and did not enjoy it. Sunday JMo I liked.
But she had her wedding starting at 11:30 am, which is too early for me.
But you do what you have to. JMO
Sunday night. 5-10 pm perfect

I've been to afternoon and Sunday night weddings. Personally, because I'm a bit neuroitc, I wouldn't enjoy myself as much at a Sunday night wedding because I would worry about either leaving early or making sure I didn't drink a lot because of work the next day. During the afternoon, I would relax a bit more. But that is just my opinion!
We are having an afternoon wedding (on a Saturday) at the Swan Club. Which room are you looking to have your wedding?

I agree that Friday night is better than Sunday. We went through the same discussion when booking our wedding. And when asked around my office the consensus was Friday night was better than Sunday. Good Luck

my fh and i are having our wedding on a sunday nite. i just had this same problem, so feel free to forum mail me if you want. we decided on the evening wedding b/c it was a bit more formal than an afternoon. plus, we cant get married on a friday nite b/c we are jewish. a saturday nite wedding would be too rushed b/c his family is pretty observant. so sunday nite is the best option for us.
the people that are the most important to you will stay and enjoy the wedding. dont worry about those people who have to go to work the next day!

I got a good Friday night deal! Evening weddings have a taste of elegance to them. And plus, if you are having an ADULT reception, and you're still a little concerned about children coming anyway, an evening wedding should tempt your guests to leave the kids at home!
Just a thought . . .

I'm having a sunday afternoon wedding. JMO but I don't care if people like it or not. If you like me and my FH then you will be at my wedding no matter when it is. (Don't mean to come off *****y ) You need to do what is best for you and no one else!
Re: Afternoon or Evening Wedding...NEED HELP PLEASE!!!
When I first started calling around I was adament about Sat night...but I had a Sunday afternoon wedding...for a few reasons...
1. when we saw the French Bastille Day was available, we thought it would be a nice tribute to DH's late father (who was French)
2. minimum was lower
3. per plate was lower (but not as low as sunday night or friday night)
then we wanted to decide afternoon or evening...the work the next day thing wayed on us...and since I booked quite early I was able to have the latest start time 1-6...
things we did to try to make it special and very ELEGANT!!!
1. we made our theme a summer garden...it revolved around the beautiful gardens of Lands End (Swan Club has beautiful gardens as well)
2. YOU set the tone of the affair...With the invitations...music...etc...
3. we had an after wedding party at DH's aunts house
to be quite honest...my sister got married on a Friday night and not many people came to the Church...b/c it was at 3 in the afternoon...so many people were at work...
Its a very personal decision...and any date or time you have it will be wonderful and don't let anyone else tell you different!!

JMO - but I do not like Sunday evening weddings. I start getting ansy by 8-9ish b/c I know I have work the next day. Yabbobay is right - you can have a formal Sunday afternoon wedding - you set the tone with your invites, music, etc.

I am having a Sunday afternoon wedding. I would have also liked a Sat night, but my FI is Jewish so we would have had to wait until sundown. We have a lot of guests comming from NJ so we didn't want have it on a Friday night or a Sunday evening. Therefore Sunday afternoon was the best option for us.
I've been to wedding on Sunday day and evening and I didn't think one was better than the other. Your wedding will be good because of what you a make of it, not what time of day it is. Choose what is best for you.

remember if you are doing afternoon you will get up soooooo early to get hair and make up done. i am having a sunday night holiday where everyone has the monday off. most likely no one will leave early if they dont have work the next day- its like a saturday night at a sunday night cost. i hope this gave u some ideas.

I don't mind the getting up early part (probably will not sleep anyway ). I'm just really confused on what to pick....AHHHH....just so frustrating. Anyone know how much the Swan Club is on a Saturday night in July or August (i'm sure its over my budget), but hey i have to ask

Re: Afternoon or Evening Wedding...NEED HELP PLEASE!!!
My swan Club wedding on Saturday night in June is 90.00 PP. I would say go for the sunday afternoon beatuiful grounds to look at. And monday is a workday for most. My cousin got married during the day and Loved it because afterwards everyone went back to her parents house and partied some more. opened gifts and so on. What ever you decided it will be wonderful and the most important people will be there

Re: Afternoon or Evening Wedding...NEED HELP PLEASE!!!
I think it all comes down to cost. Sat night are the most expensive, probably b/c they are the most in demand. I'd prefer to go to a Sat night wedding if given the choice. But, if it's too much $$ for you, then I'd say Sat or Sun afternoon is fine. I think a Sunday evening wedding is nice too, but if I go to one, I don't stay as late as I would for a Sat night or day wedding.

I say go for the Sunday evening. 5-10 would be perfect. The party atmosphere is definitely not the same with day weddings.

I'm having a Sunday afternoon wedding, I was also concerned about people leaving early. You can have a party atmosphere during the daytime if you have a good DJ or band and guests who enjoy dancing.

Re: Afternoon or Evening Wedding...NEED HELP PLEASE!!!
I'm having a Sat. afternoon wedding. For some reason I always wanted an afternoon wedding. We purposely chose someplace that would look beautiful during the day. The Swan Club has such gorgeous grounds. Personally, if I was at a Sun. night wedding, I would probably not stay too late. Also consider that some people may still have traveling to do afterwards. I chose Sat. afternoon that way people still don't have to worry about going to work the next day and won't be afraid to drink and enjoy themselves. Our reception is over at 6:30 and I am sure we will continue to party afterwards. Is there a $ difference between Sat. afternoon & Sun. afternoon?

Re: Afternoon or Evening Wedding...NEED HELP PLEASE!!!
I personally would prefer Sunday night. I agree in that the atmosphere is different for an afternoon reception. I had my e-party on a Sunday night and 95% of my guests stayed to the end!! (until 12o'clock midnight!)
