I'm trying to decide whether to go w/ a Saterday afternoon reception on the water (1-6), or a night wedding at a different place? I like the whole idea of an afternoon wedding on the water but my relatives are concerned it won't feel like a wedding or that people won't 'less loose' as they would on a Saterday night! Has anyone been to or had an afternoon wedding? Should I be concerned?

Re: afternoon vs. night reception??
i didnt want an afternoon wedding; i went to one and it was boring to me. i didnt want to really dance and drink with sunlight outside! plus i didnt want to have to throw an afterparty for everyone or go to a bar or something else. jmo

i'm having an afternoon wedding. I went to one and i liked it so much more-we also went to the after party-which we're planning on doing too. Plus for me...i feel like my wedding day will last that much longer for me if i'm up the whole day!

I am going through the same thing. I didn't book a time yet but I don't want to have an afternoon wedding, yet if I have an evening wedding the view at Giorgios won't be seen, and more importantly I won't have outdoor pictures. Expecailly since I am getting married in January it starts to get dark at 4:30.
I must agree though I think an evening wedding is always a little more fun

Re: afternoon vs. night reception??
i think it definitely depends on the crowd--i was just at a wedding on a saturday night for a co-worker of DH, and no one danced or partied hard, so it really depends on the guests....i personally prefer evening, but I know plenty of people who have had rockin' afternoon receptions too

even with evening weddings its an all day thing most of the time.
I had to wake up at 8:30am, take a shower and started doing hair and make up at 10am, did a bunch of pictures at home then left my house at 2pm. Ceremony started at 2:30pm, we left the church around 3:30pm. Took pics from around 3:30pm until after 6pm drove to the RH after. Then Ch started at 7:30 and reception ended at 1:30am, but by the time we got out of there and limo picked us up it was after 2am and then took the limo into the city to stay at a hotel. So my day started at 8:30am and didnt get to the hotel until 3am

I'm having an afternoon wedding, not so much because of money- just a preferance I have. I'm not worried because I think a wedding is a wedding no matter what time it's at- plus if you have it early you can always have a huge after party that night.

Re: afternoon vs. night reception??
I have been to all times for weddings... morning, afternoon, evening and night. My opinion...the night weddings were the most fun. More people wanted to just get up and party... rather then an earlier wedding. Is there any reason why you still can't have your wedding on the water but start later? I'm having mine on the water, and it will start at 7... just when the sun is setting..so I think it's going to look amazing!

Re: afternoon vs. night reception??
I have been to many afternoon and many evening receptions. My preference is evening receptions. I do feel that people don't really party at afternoon weddings and many times noone really dances either. I really want people to let loose and party at my wedding so I chose an evening reception.

I had a day wedding and it was perfect! People danced and drank the whole time! Because it ended by 5:00 we were also able to have an after party to extend the day. I loved it!

Thanks guys! I ended up booking the afternoon on the water....I went back yesterday and fell in love all over again! I think it will work out fine as long as I have a good DJ (any suggestions)!

I had an afternoon wedding on the water & people definitely let loose. I loved it because we now have beautiful outdoor pictures on the beach, people didn't HAVE to get a hotel room (they could drive home), and we had an afterparty that night!
Trust me, poeple will have fun. Heck, someone's date puked in the bathroom at ours Here are some pictures:

Do you think it will be difficult finding a place for hair/makeup that early (the ceremony would be at 10:30am if we go with the Sat. afternoon)?
I'm getting married the following Saturday afternoon after you...my hair and makeup people are coming to me around 5:00am... if you're okay with that, it can be done!

i am having a 10:30am ceremony as well, does anyone know if you can have a salon open extra early as opposed to having someone come to you?
