agree with this article??

i read an article that by 2 1/2 yrs in a relationship a point is reached where the fate of that relationship is determined. either both pple or one person starts to think 'will this last 4eva' b/c if not then i need to b free to meet that right person. they said that at 2 1/2 yrs a lot of couples break up because by then u know the majority of this persons positive and negative points. u kno if u want to b with them..does any1 else feel that by 2 1/2 years u know if this person is 'the one' if not sooner...

personally i agree completely. it has been 2 1/2 years i have been with my bf and i started asking myself if this was someone i wanted to b with and if we rstill on the same path. it seemed to progress naturally...basically we dated for a year, lived together have lived together for almost 2 years and i kno he is the one..i basically made this clear to him and said i love you..u love me..we have kind of stagnated in the plateau of this relationship and eventually it has to move fwd or move on from it..thankfully my bf saw my point and we r talkign more and more about the future..

the article showed how many celeb relationships failed at the 2 1/2 yr point..

any1 have opinions on this?

I definitly agree with that. For some people maybe its sooner... but I think by that point you pretty much know. My fbil says he would never propose to anyone before the 2.5 year mark... just incase

I definitely agree.... though I believe that for some people it can take less time (especially the older you are because you know yourself and what you want better) and in rare cases it can take longer.

I agree.
I point blank told Jim if he wasnt thinking of marrying me then I'd have to move on.

Too young to waste my time even if he meant something to me. *shrug*

I knew what I wanted. I just wanted him to want the same. After 3 years I started looking at the time passing us thinking 'we could be married by now..'

Finally he asked. 3 years and 3 months.

i agree... my other long term relationships ended at the 2 year mark. at that point i realized it wasn't going to last and was bored.

and at our 2 year mark, i was thinking, I better get a ring soon dammit!! But with us, we knew this was it a lot sooner than 2 years. But thats pretty much the point of sh*t or get off the pot!

Well first of all it depends on how old you are. I was in a relationship for 4 years but when I started with him I was 16 years old, I was not mature enough to decide something like that. But I have to say I dont agree with the article... perhaps it is a good average amount of time but sometimes you know instantly or on the other hand sometimes (like in my case) I wanted to live with him for a year first and I wasnt about to move in with a guy until I was dating him for at least 2 years.

I agree to some extent. By 2 1/2 years you should know whether there are any issues that will break up the relationship. But I have known too many people who stay in relationships not because he is 'THE ONE', but because it is easier to stay together and maintain the status quo than to break up and be single. A couple we hang out with that has been together for 9 years, living together for 6, broke up last month because he said he knew he would never want to have children with her because he didn't see her being a good mother. Should it have taken 9 years to realize that? Maybe not, but he said he finally worked up the courage to tell her, and realized life is too short to waste more time. That takes more time for some than others.

Yeah, I agree with that. All of my serious relationships before FH ended at the 2.5 year mark. I always thought it was just coincidence, but I guess not!

Funny, all my long term relationships ended at the 2 yer - 2.5 year mark. That's when we had the 'we need to decide where this is going' talk. And my fiancee proposed to me at just about the 2 year mark! That being said, I know so many people who were together for years and years and years, got engaged or married, and then broke up shortly thereafter. So I don't know where they were at the 2.5 year mark.
