if they pester you because you didn't book them, then they are behaving unprofessionally and it's a good thing you won't be using their services.
don't sweat it.
stick to the facts and you will be fine. people play off of other people's fears all the time. don't let any vendor intimidate you. i had to once pretty much tell a vendor to go stuff it because he/she was insulting my intelligence. i tried to be as polite as i possibly could be, but there comes a point where it does become borderline harassment and you are entitled to your own opinion and privacy.
ignore them enough and they will eventually magically disappear.
