I am starting to look at airfare to Italy for our HM and the prices are about the same. I have looked at the reviews of several airlines and they are all average.
Can anyone recommend a particular airline? Alitalia, Air France, American etc......
Thanks in advance.

I would use Alitalia. Thier prices are cheaper than Delta and other American airline companies.

I honestly didn't like Alitalia the two times I flew to Italy, but my dad goes every year and flies Air France and has raved about it everytime.

If you are going to the UK then fly VIRGIN ATLANTIC. They are fantastic!!!!!
A friend of mine who has gone to Rome a few times says Alitalia is really wonderful.
Royal Dutch (I think the abbreviation is KLM) is excellent - and my old boss swore by Singapore Air - or Air Singapore - but he got to fly business or first class - they had the fold down beds.
I recently flew American home from London and they were terrible - I wouldnt recommend - though maybe I had a bad flight crew.

Re: Airlines to Europe????
Price / Time / Comfort - those are my three criteria when choosing an itinerary.
I would choose the one with the most direct flight. You don't want to spend most of your time at the airport. Then - the newer plane, the better. American usually flies the 777 to Europe. Great plane - very quiet so you can actually sleep. The seats are roomier in coach than most (American's more room in coach is noticable!) and the entertainment system is very good - very important esp if you're not used to flying long distances.
I fly internationally twice a month and all airlines are not built equally. The bigger the better because they have strong codeshare partnerships. Meaning if you should get bumped you have more flight options.

I think the best thing to do is to use the Travelocity Farewatcher. I use it all the time to book my tix (especially to italy...I've gotten some R/T for less than $300) this way you can pick the airline and the flight that works best.
Good luck....I wish I was going with you!!!

Re: Airlines to Europe????
We went to Italy last July. Delta and Alitalia have a partnership. We flew one there and the other back.
It was part of a package deal but if you know the real cost of your flight (see internet sites) it makes it easier to negotiate the rest with your travel agent.
