You can do it. I qut smoking 4 years ago and now it's the absolute most disgusting thing to me. You just have to keep in your mind that you want to quit and you will be able to do it. I did it cold turkey and I think that's the best way. What really helped me stick to it was the smell in my hair. I just couldn't get it out and I kew that was it for me. I knew if I smoked again thay smell would be back in myhair. Now whenever im around someone who smokes the smell def sticks in my hair and I shower the second I get home.

Re: All Ex smokers...need your encouragement!!!
I smoked for 7 yrs... and the only reason I stopped was b/c FH HATED it!!! He hated that I had to smoke constantly and hated the smell. I always wanted to quit, but since he hated it so much.... I didnt want to become unattractive to him. The first days were the worst... when we would get into heated arguments, I would run to the gas station and pick up a pack of ciggs to feel better. Now, I dont do that anymore and always thank my FH for helping me quit. Now I look at people smoking and think (no offense) 'I remember doing that to my body... why are they still smoking' OHHHH and heres the best thing EVER and something I will NEVER forget.... I was smoking and this guy walks by (not that attractive and says) 'You are too beautiful to be smoking' and I thought OMGGGGG I really am killing myself with this.... and I never forgot that he said that to me. I would love to thank him lol I still thank FH all the time lol.. YOU CAN DO IT!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: All Ex smokers...need your encouragement!!!
After 3 days of not smoking the nicotine is no longer in your body, it is all psychological if you still want one....chew gum, eat lollipops for the time being....
I quit smoking years ago right before I met FH. I had gone on vacation, got really sick on the flight back and had bronchitis for 3 weeks....I couldnt smoke so I decided I would just stop and somehow I did.
Have you seen the latest lung cancer commercial? I look away bc it frightens me...just the sound of the person trying to breathe gets me...I just pray that the few yrs of smoking I did hasnt damaged me for life.

Re: All Ex smokers...need your encouragement!!!
Donna - you can do it. I quit 3 years ago after 20 years of smoking.
It was probably the hardest thing I've ever done. This is what helped me though.
When I felt like total sh!t because I wasn't smoking and yes I felt lightheaded, dizzy and nauseous too, I knew it would pass in a little bit. Each time that I felt sick from it, it got a little bit easier and I told myself that the first 2 hours were the worst, or the first 12 or the first 24 or the first week and I NEVER want to go back to feeling that way again. So just try to tell yourself it's going to get easier. I promise you, it will. Even if it doesn't seem that way.
For me the habit was a lot harder to break than the niccotine addiction and I was going through withdrawal of what to do with my hands. I became addicted to blow pops for a while...but I am now recovered from that too.
YOU CAN DO IT!!! IF YOU NEED MORE ENCOURAGEMENT PLEASE FM ME! I'M SO PROUD OF YOU!!!!!!!

Re: All Ex smokers...need your encouragement!!!
I've smoked since I was 14. I got bronchitis in late October/Early Nov? I can't remember my 'date' but I decided, I had 4 days under my belt and I was like if I'm ever gonna quit, its gonna be now.
I'm not going to lie to you, they compare quitting smoking to QUITTING HEROIN!!! Its THAT addictive.. But seriously, get the patch. It works miracles.
I still take drags here and there and I smoked all night on new years, the craving doesn't go away. I knew I was NEVER going to be a NON smoker, 100%. I LIKE smoking. So i'll have one here and there, but I don't buy packs and I don't smoke all day at work or in the car, etc etc etc. Its really just when I drink...
Not sure if i helped or hurt...but I do feel WAY better since I stopped!
Oh and PS I went for 6 weeks without ANY!

Re: All Ex smokers...need your encouragement!!!
And
Every ten seconds, somewhere in the world, someone dies of tobacco-related causes.
Tobacco kills more Americans each year than alcohol, cocaine, crack, heroin, homicide, suicide, car accidents, fire and AIDS combined.
Tobacco products are the only legal consumer products that are LETHAL when used exactly as the manufacturer intends.
Cigarettes are the leading cause of fire deaths in the USA.
Each Year, the American Association of Poison Control Centers receives reports of poisoning in young children who eat tobacco products.
Smokers pay twice as much for life insurance and will die an average of 13 - 14 years earlier than non-smokers.
It costs tobacco companies approximately 5 cents to produce a pack of cigarettes.
A study found that dogs in smoking households had a 60 percent greater risk of lung cancer; a different study showed that long-nosed dogs, such as collies or greyhounds, were twice as likely to develop nasal cancer if they lived with smokers. And yet another study found that cats whose owners smoked were three times more likely to develop lymphoma, the most common feline cancer.
There are 69 known carcinogens in cigarettes.
Tobacco smoke contains at least 4,000 chemicals including: ammonia, cyanide, arsenic, and formaldehyde. Cigarette butts take about 25 years to decompose. Cigarette butts are the major source of litter in the USA.
Tobacco company executives don't generally use their own products. They leave that for 'the young, the poor and the stupid,' as R.J. Reynolds executives once told one of their Winston models.

Re: All Ex smokers...need your encouragement!!!
smoking seriously ages you, makes your teeth yellow, dulls your hair and causes CANCER, I quit cold turkey the first few days were hard but I will never go back, I smoked almost two packs a day, I can not express how good I feel.. if you really want this you can do it, just dont substitute this bad habit with another, drink water and excercise. YOU CAN DO IT...

Re: All Ex smokers...need your encouragement!!!
I quit smoking over 4 yeara ago. My motto is if i could do it so can you. I WAS THE WORST SMOKER EVER. I smoked close to 2 packs a day. I was a chain smoker who started at age 15. I could never try to quit. Never could go one day without. Then I met FH and he played a big roll in my quiting. The power of love wow. So I can do it you can. You went 2 days without now try 3 and the longer you do without the better and you will eventually stop missing it. YOU CAN DO IT.
