Ok so my engagement ring is WG. I was not properly explained the difference between WG and PLAT and I feel that if I was I would have opted for the PLAT. Me E-ring will have to be re-rhodium plated from time to time, cuz all WG has a yellowish tint to it. Should I get my wedding band in PLAT or WG? Would it be wierd if I had them two different metals?? I would not consider re-setting my e-ring(it's a solitaire)because FH engraved the ring with the date he proposed on the inside!!!! I need your opinions!! THanks!

well the platinum is super soft - if you are going to wear it everyday i would suggest getting the white gold

Re: All girls that have a WG Engagement Ring!!!!
it's really a personal decision.
i have platinum and i am VERY hard on my ring-- i don't worry about it or anything-- i live my normal life and if it gets banged around, so be it and i have never had a problem with it being scratched, bent or damaged in any way. infact, i'm so happy i went with platinum because of how well it has held up... i get it buffed and cleaned by a jeweler every once in a while and it always comes out looking like the first day i had it... i have had it now for over a year and a half.
but it's up to you-- i prefer platinum but that does not make WG 'bad'... it's all about your style. if you feel better with a platinum ring then you should get your changed, dipped, re-set, etc... whatever you would like. HTH

i have a WG ring. we got our bands in WG. while platinum is nice, it just wasn't for us.
just remember that if you get a plat wedding band, it may not look right with your e-ring over time. if you plan on just wearing your wedding band, then go for it. you have to do what is comfortable for you!

Hi I have a WG solitare too. My wedding ring is WG also. I wasn't sure if after time the 2 different metals would look different than each other. But again, it's up to you. Maybe a jeweler would be able to explain how both would look after time and give you some professional advice. Good Luck!!

Re: All girls that have a WG Engagement Ring!!!!
My ring is platinum as well. As other people said, it is your taste. I wear my ring all the time and definitely not dainty with it. Sure the palm side of the ring has some sign of wear but I have white/yellow gold rings that also show signs of wear. I have even slipped up the NYC cement subway stairs where I banged the hand with my ring down. It didn't bend or anything. So, probably when you go to a jeweler, ask them based on what you want and lifestyle.
What I love about the platinum ring is the weight. To me, it makes it feel really special and different from my other rings. Also, I find it soothing that I don't need to worry about the color fading. I just need to bring it to the store for a polishing. I am lazy.
As far as I understand it - I could be wrong - platinum is considered a pure metal whereas white gold is a metal mixed with other metals...

I personally wanted WG. I didn't care either way and wouldn't want FH spending the extra $ when we could use it towards the wedding.

My e-ring is WG and so will be my wedding ring. I think its really just a personal preference ( I prefer WG) but i have noticed that platinum looks a bit duller so i would't mix the two, it will make your wedding band look really blah next to your e-ring
totally agree...it's a personal choice. platinum looks duller to me so we went with WG for both.

Re: All girls that have a WG Engagement Ring!!!!
i think it's a personal choice, but over time the WG and the plat will certainly age differently. my e-ring is platinum and i have a medic-alert bracelet that was custom-made for me in WG and i wear it EVERY DAY. haven't taken it off for anything in years. anyway, seeing the platinum near the gold is def a difference in colors. the WG changes to lighten as it ages whereas the platinum changes to slightly darken as it ages. i guess i'm saying maybe if you don't want the colors to age differently then get the rings in the same metal - whatever that may be.

It really totally your decision but there is a noticible difference especially over time between wg and plat. They will look like different metals.

Re: All girls that have a WG Engagement Ring!!!!
I actually WANTED white gold....my FH knew that but said the jeweler sold him on the quality of plat.(but any jeweler would for the difference in cash!) anyways, they all have their ultimate perks as well as downsides so either way you'll be fine. Although i would get the metals matching only so the brightness (etc) matches because with time you will see a difference. good luck
