just remember that if you get a plat wedding band, it may not look right with your e-ring over time. if you plan on just wearing your wedding band, then go for it. you have to do what is comfortable for you!

It really totally your decision but there is a noticible difference especially over time between wg and plat. They will look like different metals.

Yup...my E-Ring is plat and we had a hard time finding a band that looked nice with the cut of it and we finally found one but they only had it in WG so we bought it but as soon as I took it home and tried it on a few times I realized that they really didn't match at all and we returned it and were back to square one...in the end we were able to find the same band in Plat and I am SO HAPPY that I didn't go with the mismatched set...HTH

the price of platinum has also gone up alot compared to gold.

i have platinum only because on my hand, white gold turns yellow.
it is my skin.

well the platinum is super soft - if you are going to wear it everyday i would suggest getting the white gold

Actually, platinum is much harder than gold; white gold is softer than platinum.

One isn't necessarily better than the other; they are just different. It's a personal choice.

It looks like you (the original poster) and I have almost the exact same e-ring. I opted for platinum, but I don't see any huge disadvantages to white gold, either.

ETA - like others have said, just make sure your wedding band is the same metal as the two will age differently.

i agree with the other girls... i would get both rings in the same metal because over time you will see a difference... i have both my rings in white gold, and so far i love it
i think the metal you use is a matter of what you like, but i would just make sure to get them both in the same metal..

I totally agree with everyone. I am going to go with the WG band. Some of these salespeople will tell you anything to get you to buy plat though. In Fortunoff the lady told me 'no you should get them different metals becasue then you will only have to worry about dipping one of them over and over again' Oh well, now I know where to come for advice... Right here on LIW!!

My ring is platinum as well. As other people said, it is your taste. I wear my ring all the time and definitely not dainty with it. Sure the palm side of the ring has some sign of wear but I have white/yellow gold rings that also show signs of wear. I have even slipped up the NYC cement subway stairs where I banged the hand with my ring down. It didn't bend or anything. So, probably when you go to a jeweler, ask them based on what you want and lifestyle.

What I love about the platinum ring is the weight. To me, it makes it feel really special and different from my other rings. Also, I find it soothing that I don't need to worry about the color fading. I just need to bring it to the store for a polishing. I am lazy.

As far as I understand it - I could be wrong - platinum is considered a pure metal whereas white gold is a metal mixed with other metals...

totally agree with this post! i have platinum and i love it! a little cleaning and it shines much more than wg (i have wg rings) when it scratches they come right out.....and platinum will last longer than wg...colorwise and scratch/bend wise bc it is a stronger metal..but it is a personal choice bc it is expensive....i opted for wg for my wedding band bc of cost eventhough my ering is platinum...i figure i can buy a new wedding band ina couple of yrs in platinum if i ever want to

it's really a personal decision.

i have platinum and i am VERY hard on my ring-- i don't worry about it or anything-- i live my normal life and if it gets banged around, so be it and i have never had a problem with it being scratched, bent or damaged in any way. infact, i'm so happy i went with platinum because of how well it has held up... i get it buffed and cleaned by a jeweler every once in a while and it always comes out looking like the first day i had it... i have had it now for over a year and a half.

but it's up to you-- i prefer platinum but that does not make WG 'bad'... it's all about your style. if you feel better with a platinum ring then you should get your changed, dipped, re-set, etc... whatever you would like. HTH

I have a platinum e-ring only b/c my ring came in platinum only. My band is white gold. I wear them both everyday and to be honest, the platinum ring looks far worse than the white gold. I recently had it [the platinum] repaired for some loose stones and they of course polished it up as well...looks brand new again. Meanwhile, my white gold wedding band still looks brand new 4 months later. I would rather have to get both rings dipped from time to time than deal with how easily scratched this platinum ring is!


In the end, it's a personal choice, but with all the white gold I've ever owned in the past 5 years, none of it has been redipped yet.
