All I want to do is scream!!!!!!

Original post by Sugaplum111905

So my fiance and I have been looking at reception halls for our wedding and have it a very clear point me wanted Sept/October 2013 to every family member. My brother and his fiance just got engaged 1 month ago and have now announced to the family that they are booking August16, 2013 for their wedding. I can't help but be annoyed, angry and fustrated as my brother doesn't see an issue with the fact that our weddings will be weeks apart. Does anyone else see something wrong with this or is my bridezilla side creeping through?

I dunno... I kind of feel like I wouldn't care.

I mean my sister is getting married this September and FH and I originally wanted March (2013) but he wouldn't have been done with school yet. My sister wanted us to get married this November or December actually so we both could get married the same year :) (I'm very close to her and we're both the most laid-back people ever).

I feel like for me, this would not be a big deal. I'm not comfortable being the center of attention anyway so I'm happy if people steal my thunder.

It's not really about being the center of attention, but there is a lot to do in the month leading up to your wedding. IDK, I'm planning my own wedding long distance and expected to travel for the wedding booked weeks before mine, but I feel like people, especially those closest to you, should be considerate of your time (and $$$) during the weeks before your wedding.

This exactly. I booked first, but now I have three weddings in the three months leading up to my wedding. Two of them being out of state. Do you know how much $$ that means I will have to shell out to other people instead of using it towards our big day? Whether people intentionally do this to hurt you or not they just aren't taking anyone else into consideration but themselves. And no, a wedding reception isn't all about you. You do have to think about the people who are attending.

This is what I was think too... You read my mind. Apparently my brother doesn't see it as a big deal for our family to have two weddings back to back. That's because his wedding will be first. He isn't thinking about the fact that all the events, not just the wedding will be back to back as well, just as the bridal showers. My fiancé and I are on a budget for our wedding so now our money will be going towards events for their wedding and reception instead of us using it for our big day. Some should slap him and tell him to wake up. Maybe the lightbulb will go on.

It's half and half. Partially bridezilla (because let's be real, anyone is entitled to get married any day of the year without checking with you first) and partially just effed up. I know because one of DH's friends did it to him! They booked it the weekend before our tentative wedding date. Fortunately we hadn't booked anything but I was livid. We would have been able to get married on our 6 year anniversary, but nope, we got married two weeks later.

All you can do at this point is bite your tongue and book your date. What about the weekend before theirs?!

They didn't have to book their date a few weeks before mine. That's just inconsiderate. Their wedding is aug 16th 2013, I'm thinking of telling them that we are getting married August 1st and see how they feel, just to prove a point. :)

It'll bother you from time to time, but just try and focus on yourself.

Have you been engaged for a long time? Maybe they were really excited? I knew exactly where I wanted and went out and booked it ASAP. Perhaps it could be viewed as selfish but you have to rem THEY are just as excited to get married as YOU and your FH are!

You don't own any single day, week, month or year.

Anyone can do anything they like and they don't have to revolve their plans around yours. You haven't even set a date or booked anything.

Go about doing things as you planned and let it go. Don't stress it or cause drama, because you will end up looking like a Bridezilla.

its one thing if you had already booked something, but when you say 'I want a sept/oct wedding', that leaves it very open. maybe they always wanted a summer wedding... there are only so many days in a year, and if you didnt have anything solid booked you cant expect people to wait for you.

There are so many other reason why they may have booked.. maybe the place they loved only had one date left, maybe it was the only day that worked with the church. maybe she had colors she wanted that only looked good in the summer..

honestly i would not stress over this. when did you get engaged?
I dont blame your brother and future-sil for wanting to nail down a date that works for them. Considering they wanted a summer 2013 wedding (i assume since that is what they booked) the available weekends were probably limited since many people book over a year in advance.

I personally would not wait for my sister to pick her wedding date and then revolve my life around her...if you said you were thinking august that would be another story...but if you end up with late October its 8 weeks later.
