All inclusive honeymoons??

All inclusive honeymoons??

Maybe this is a stupid question - but no question is stupid right??? (I'm a teacher, can you tell?). My FH and I have been thinking about our honeymoon and wonder is an all inclusive resort is actually cheaper. Has anyone actually sat down and figured it out?TIA

Thats a good question. I think it really depends on how much you and your FH drink. I don't think its worth it if you're the one drink a day type couple, since all-inclusives factor the drinks in the price.

FH and I did an all-inclusive for a short vacation a couple of years ago and absolutely loved it. It was just so care-free not to have to carry money around. We loved it so much we're doing it again for our HM!

Yes, how much you drink, how much you eat and if you guys plan on being adventurous and leaving the hotel for dinner, or if you're more low key and will be staying in for dinner. There are people that are really picky and/or like to explore wherever they're at, so AI would not make sense for them. Then there are those that like to drink all day by the pool/beach, like to have wine or champagne with dinner, like to have 4 course dinners and don't want to have to worry about paying a CC bill or bringing extra cash for their incidentals. My fi and I are the latter - we were on a budget and wanted to know up front what we would spend without having to worry about going over on food and drinks.
MY best advice would be to pick a place that has a variety of restaturants (5 or more, if possible) and that their menu changes so that you won't be bored eating the same foods, that's if you're going AI. If not, then pick a place that's cheaper but is accessible to everything in the 'outside' world so that you can go out for great dinners nearby. Food and the quality of drinks was so important to us, so we picked a place that's AI but it's 'gourmet AI' meaning, no buffets, everything is a la carte and all liquor (premium) is included.

If you don't venture out of this site much, but would like to, theknot.com's HM board constantly has topics on AI vs not AI...also, if you have narrowed it down to a particular place, go to www.tripadvisor.com and read other traveler's reviews so that you get an idea if the food is good or not, if AI in a particular place is worth it or not, etc.

Sorry for the novel! Hope I helped!

SOmethingblu - you rock! That was definitely helpful. The reason I ask is because I am in love with the El Dorado Royale in Mexico. It is AI but it has like you said plenty of restaurants (6) and they are all a la carte.

Thank you again and if you don't mind my asking where are you going on your honeymoon?

Oh, you're very welcome!

Well, you have made a great choice - EDR is where I wanted to go as well, but my fiance wanted a 'smaller' place (what does he know) so we are going to Royal Hideaway Playacar. EDR gets great reviews, the pictures are stunning, and it's also a la carte. IMO you can't go wrong. I can recommend a great TA (I booked through her and got a discount of over $1K from anyone's prices) SFP0214 just booked her EDR HM through her.

Good luck - FM me if you have any questions!

I think it is....the convenience of not having to worry about how much money you have on you/to bring along was priceless. So was not having to leave the resort for anything!!

Our biggest decision every day was pool or beach? and What restaurant for dinner? breakfast and lunch were less confusing since there was only 1 breakfast buffet and only 2 or 3 restaurants that served lunch. They also had small snack bars around the resort for 'snack' food and drinks.

Who wants to sit and count their money every night on their honeymoon? Or worry about transportation to this or that restaurant, or getting lsot getting there?????

Re: All inclusive honeymoons??

We did a lot of research on this before we booked our honeymoon. What I found was most of the places I liked would have cost a lot more than an all inclusive. Having all meals and drinks included as well as water sports really helped us out. We arent big drinkers, but that kind of thing really adds up.

ETA: It was a such a great trip and a great value that we are going back in a few months!

I would have to say that All Inclusive is definately the way to go-its nice to not have to worry about spending any more money (the only thing you would really need it for is if you want to buy stuff or go on some day trips that aren't included) You'll have more time to just relax and enjoy each other and the beautiful scenery-after all isn't that what it is all about?
