At our wedding we danced the tarentella, we had confetti, and we had cannoli filling. Also- not that is is specifically an Italian thing- but we had platters of fruit on each table with dessert... my dad is OBSESSED with eating fruit after dinner to aid digestion!

I am doing the jordan almonds, having cannoli cream wedding cake and dancing the tarantella (I have a Sicilian tarantella song that is a bit different from the regular one...)

Unlike other posters, I am hoping to SCARE THE LIVING DAYLIGHTS out of some of my snooty, future in-laws. FH is all for it!!!!!

we didn't do too much:

we had the confetti, that my MIL brought over from Italy. His aunts (that live in italy) handmade lace to go around the almonds. Our favors represented all our ethnicities - it was the confetti (italian - both), with mini bottles of Jagermeister (german - him) and Baileys (irish - me). With the poem explaining the 5 almonds and the significance of our favor choices.

also our cake was layered napolean - the closest we could get to mille fogli (an italian layered cake meaning a thousand leaves - I think its supposed to have a thousand layers)

thats about it - oh, I made sure to have my mom's favorte dessert on hand (fruita di bosco)

What is the tradition of flowers and the Blessed Mother? Is it done during the mass?

(Part of the reason I called myself Clueless is because part of my FH's family is from Naples and they have very different weddings than I'm accustomed to in my family and I want everyone - Italian, Irish, British - to have some of their customs represented)

yes, during the mass, the B&G offer flowers to the Blessed Mother (lay them in front of the statue).

We didn't do this (much to my MILs chagrin).

Probably some Italian wedding songs and the jordan almonds for tradition.

Doing the jordan almonds, def having true italian songs, Like 'Campognola' 'Tarantella' ' Una Spina y Una Rosa'

and when I walk outside the house for the first time in my dress my mom will throw rose petals. (which are a sign of good luck)

You could have the grooms tie cut into pieces and sold at the reception its supposed to bring good luck and fortune.

I think Pasquale is ham enough to go with it.

Re: All Italian / Sicilian Brides

Can someone tell me what the poem is that describes the confettis?

i am Napoleatan, Calabrese and a little something else (I'm not sure). I was looking for other Itlaian traditionjs besides the confetti, flowers to the Blessed Mother and Ave Maria. My FH is Irish and doesn't want any of the Italian songs. He is in for a rude awakening. i don't know what to do for his Irish heritage either? Any suggestions!

Well for starters my reception is at Russo's, but I am also going to have the Hail Mary said in Italian at the Ceremony, and Ave Maria will be played as well. We are of course having the Tarantella, and 'The Prayer' which is sung half in Italian. There will also be numerous Frank Sinatra songs-we have a guy in the band who sounds just like him-in fact he is the singer of 'The Osbournes' theme!

Does anyone know where I can get the scrolls for the jordon almonds? My FIL's are Italian and were asking me if I was going to have them. I think I will but I wanted to get the scrolls that state the meaning of the almonds. Anyone know??

Re: All Italian / Sicilian Brides

Well, as you know T, I'm not Italian by FH is...

We're giving out Amorini candy in little boxes as favors, along with a mini bottle of Asti. The Ave Maria is being sung during our ceremony, and of course we're doing the Tarantella!
