Ok, I am freaking a bit. It's decision time for the graduate schools...I am so scared that I think I am going to cry! Two of my friends have already gotten rejection letters. My application is still on hold while they wait for my thesis grade...so I have to get a move on. I am so freaked out, I don't know what to do if I don't get in anywhere...I have worked SOOOO hard. I think I am going to go insane!
UPDATE: CW Post called and I got an interview! I am so relieved. It's a step in right direction at least! Mon is the interview. Queens told me that they will let know in May...wow! Adelphi is probably going to be the last to tell me since their deadline was 3/1/05.

The waiting is the hardest part! I know it's so competitive, but think positive! Where did you apply? Good luck!

The waiting definitley is the hardest part. My professors instilled such fear in all of us how competitive it was to get in. One of them even went so far as to give us ideas for what else we could do with our undergrad degrees besides SLP! In the end though, Everyone got in somewhere!! It will work out!! Good luck!!

I applied to Queens, CW Post, and Adelphi. Only 3, I know. But those are the only schools I can really go to. With FH going into the NYPD we can not move. I go to Post now and would like to stay there. I just feel like no matter what I have done to make me a 'good applicant', it just isn't enough.
I did decent on the GRE (I broke 1000 at least) and my grade are good, plus I am involved. I just want this so bad and I am so scared that it isn't going to happen. It's just so scary when people are getting rejected...and they are good students too!

Re: All my SLP gals...I need your strength
I'm sure you will get in somewhere. Don't worry about your friends getting rejected. i agree with smiley, everyone i know ended up getting in somewhere. i know there were some people who i went to undergrad with who knew they weren't going to get into grad school so they didn't even bother to apply and went to do something else, but everyone else got in some place. if you have good grades and are involved i think you have a pretty good shot. and i think a lot of schools give some kind of preference to you if you went there undergrad since they know you so you probably have a good chance of getting into cw post. i think queens is probably the hardest to get into just because so many people apply there since it's so much cheaper. good luck! i'll keep my fingers crossed for you! keep us updated!

Re: All my SLP gals...I need your strength
I was right there with you dear.... I only applied to one school (I know, kamikaze-style) becasue there are only 3 schools that offer the major here in MD and the other 2 were either too expensive or too much of a commute. All of my buddies had gotten their acceptance letters but I didn't. Mine got lost in the mail (thankfully, the head of the graduate dept. let me know informally).
You will get in! PLEASE keep us posted! Amy

Re: All my SLP gals...I need your strength
That field is VERY competitive when it comes to grad school. The except like 30 people out of hundreds of applicants. Just to let you know that St. John's and NYU also have an SLP program. Those 2 schools are also way expensive. I'm sure you will get in, but there are alternatives. You can get your Masters in Special Ed, or elementary ed, and do speech in public schools. Once you work for the Board of Ed, some schools have seats available just for BOE speech teachers. You will have a better chance of getting in. You just have to work work the BOE for a certain # of years. There is also a new online MS program given from Kentucky for BOE employees to take and is alot cheaper then most schools. You do most of your clinical hr. at the BOE speech clinic. Any other questions, please feel free to FM me.
