Ok....so my FH and I are paying for everything and its stressing me out big time. Does anyone have any good ideas on how to cut costs or what to do? Paying for a wedding these days is nuts. I want my big elaborate wedding but at the same time how do I do it on such a small budget.

Re: $$$$ All on us
try a hall where you can get a package deal (such as brentwood country club) also consider a daytime wedding, or another day besides saturday! also try having during the winter months (january, or february are cheaper!)

Try to cut the guest list back where you can. I know you said you want a big wedding, but think about it: cutting just 10 people from your wedding (by inviting your single, unattached friends alone without a guest) will save you about $1000.

We booked West Sayville Country Club and got an amazing price for a Saturday night in November. The hall isn't our problem, its all the other stuff we need to get. Weddings are so expensive...epecially NY Long Island weddings...haha. I have found some great ideas on here and online. Plus our birdal party is big.....but gotta be surrounded by the ones we love.

The candle idea is a great idea. I actually want 3 small flower pieces on the table surrounded by votives. OUr reception hall allows us to put candles above all the windows so we are going to have that room glowing!

I would think about which areas you are willing to sacrifice on. Like the guest list and if not then others such as limos. Me and FH, as much as I would love the rolls just for us and a limo for the girls, we probably cant do it. so to stay under budget I'm going with one excursion or something like it. And it saves 500-600 dollars.
Another thing to think about is the flowers - there are tons of ways to make the CP's gorgeous and they don't have to cost a ton.
Have you thought of DIY projects? I'm planning on making my invites and i hope to save few hundred by doing so!
Try not to stress -

I definitely agree with you... its really easy to get caught up in things just scale things down..see what you can do yourself and you will make it work.

Re: $$$$ All on us
Honestly scale back on BP, its really not a big thing if not everyone is in it that you know. Just keep the MOST important people. Honestly the more people you have the more chaos you have. My opinion-also sister in law who has been in MANY weddings.
Centerpieces as stated. Do candles and some petals. DO not do extra's like a mono runner, programs, specialty seating table cards, anything that is in excess. Its not necessary and the only reason I am doing some extra's is because i work at a print shop and get things for free.
Remember the day is about you and fh not about the stuff no one will remember such as a flower piece or a basket in a bathroom.

Re: $$$$ All on us
i heard on here that for photography you can ask college photo students to do it for you for a lot less expesive and their work is still amazing! i would maybe research that! also, it is true...i never remember the centerpieces or flowers from the weddings i go to, you can just do something simple and nice instead of a lot of flowers, that will save u a lot! i also am prob not doing a separate car for FH and I...we will just go in the limo with the BP...it will be fun to ride with them anyway. I would do DJ instead of band (bands are really expensive!) ...hmmm...if i think of anything else i will let you know! Good luck!

I agree with tara08...we're not doing floral centerpieces either. We're doing a row of votive candles all the way down the table with rose petals. I'm doing my calla lily bouquet myself.
Also if you have any friends with special talents, you could ask them to do stuff for you...most of them will either volunteer to do it for free or give you a much lower rate.

Do a lot of DIYs... wait until David's Bridal has the $99 gown sale. Scale back on your BP, the more people in your BP, the more flowers. Don't go crazy on the limo, instead of getting one for you BP and one for you and your FH, get one for the whole event. Cut favors... do your guests really need a candle (no offense to those of you doing candles... but you hear what I'm saying)?
As you move forward in your planning you'll figure out ways to cut corners... not to worry Good luck!

If you can make the gifts yourself..I was going to pay almost 200 for shot glasses for my bridal party that has bridesmaid ECT on them until I found cute shot glasses at walmart $ 3 for 4 SO I'm making them myself.

I'm in the same boat as you. I plan on cutting back on invites (doing them myself), bp size, limos, flowers, and photography.
Good Luck - you can do it!
