FH has always wanted to go on a cruise....which is something we could definitely afford but I've always been hesitant b/c i'm afraid i'll get sick and not enjoy myself at all. Not get like vomitting sick, but get lightheaded and not feeling well in general. I went scuba diving once off a smaller boat for 1 week and felt miserable. I know cruise ships are bigger but my mom gets queazy on them and i'm afraid that'll happen to me. Should I consider a cruise out of PR for HM?? Has anyone ever felt sick on a cruise before? any precautions to take?
thanks girls!

Re: all that HM talk got me thinking...
I've been on 2 cruises with FH'f family.
The only times I ever got sick feeling were when the boat pulled away from port. I don't know what it but that inital take off kills me. I never threw up thank god but definitely light headed. The feeling went away by the next day.

Re: all that HM talk got me thinking...
OMG cruises are so much fun!! FH and I have been on 2 so far and love them. But from what I've heard you either love them or hate them, so definitely do a lot of research into it before making your decision.
What I have done to prevent seasickness is get these little wrist bands called 'Sea Bands' that you can get at a convenience store. They tell you exactly how to wear them because they have a little ball on one side that you need to have placed directly on a pressure point on your wrist (once it's on you don't feel the ball). Supposedly having the ball on the pressure point helps to relieve nausea. I have worn them in the beginning of both cruises (even to sleep) because I get paranoid but always take them off by the second day and I'm fine. Another thing that I do is take ginger pill supplements with me. You can also take Dramamine or Bonine, but I didn't want to have to deal with the side effects of being drowsy so I found ginger pills to be the better alternative. I started taking them a few days before the cruise and then everyday during the cruise.
I haven't gotten seasick on either cruise. If you are doing a cruise out of PR, then most likely you will have calm waters. The only time during both trips that I felt seasick (only a tiny bit!) was on the cruise I took this past June, which went from NJ to the Caribbean. When the ship started it's journey back up to NJ we hit a patch of rough water one night and I started feeling queasy. I told FH that I needed to go back to the room and I took the ginger pills and wore the sea bands to bed that night. When I woke up I was fine. I never actually got sick, just felt a little queasy.
Another tip when going on a cruise: To have the least amount of motion people recommend that you should stay midship and also on a low deck. I didn't stay midship or on a low deck on either of my cruises and I was fine both times but it's a tip I've heard if you are a little worried about getting seasick.
If you are interested in going on a cruise I highly recommend checking out CruiseCritic.com. It's a great site with a forum and there are many experienced cruisers on there who are very helpful! You can also find ship reviews on that site as well.
FH and I went on a cruise out of PR. We went on Royal Caribbean's Serenade of the Seas. It's a gorgeous ship and we had a great itinerary. We stopped at St. Thomas, St. Martin, Antigua, St. Lucia and Barbados. It was so much fun! The ship isn't AS big as some of the ships out there...but it's still pretty big.
Sorry for the long winded response, it's just that I love cruises! If you have any other questions feel free to FM me!
HTH!
