All These KIDS! - Long!!!

My sister has the most wonderful, well behaved children in the world. 10 year old girl, 7 yr boy, 5yr girl and 3yr girl. They are SO excited about the wedding. My FH 's brother has two adorable boys - 5 and 3 who are TERRORS. I want to include my sister's children but don't know how to give everybody a little something to do without risking a scene. OR - do you think I should just ditch involving any kids at all? Does it take away from the focus of the ceremony?

All These KIDS! - Long!!!

We have all of the kids involved in our wedding; 4 year old nephew (turning 4 a week before the wedding), 7 year old nephew, 3 year old niece, 12 year old brother (mine), 10 year old MOH;s son, 14 year old MOH's daughter. I plan on having coloring books with crayons at the pews waiting for the little ones after they walk down the aisle. We will also do some 'practice' masses over the summer for the little ones so they know that they need to be quiet and where they walk to and from. You can also discuss the situation with parents. They may want a night-out without kids involved.

Definitely ask the parents if they want their children there. Some parents like a night out. They might just allow them to go to the church but not to the reception. You don't HAVE to have anyone that you don't want. If they are really rotten kids make sure the parents know that they have to keep them under control. My friend had a BM's daughter in the wedding party & in some of the pictures lil' miss bratty stuck her tongue out. Mind you the bride was a lot more calm then I was. Just keep that in mind when you make your decision. Your wedding day has enough stress don't add more if you really don't want it. Good Luck!!!

All These KIDS! - Long!!!

All good points. so far both mothers want to bring the kids. I like the crayon idea - VERY good! What is everybody else having kids do at the ceremony? Are there other options besides the flower girl /ring bearer thing?

All These KIDS! - Long!!!

I am having a few kids, but only one is under 10 so I'm not too worried. I was just at a friends wedding and she had her two very young cousins hand out programs and yamukas(sp?)...at the wedding they did not take anything away...even dancing they looked cute and their family had a good time dancing with them, but the bride and groom were at the center of attention...

The only kids that are invited are the flowergirls, ringbearer and also the ones that are coming from out of town. Otherwise, they are not allowed to bring any kids. On my invitation it says 'Adult reception'.

I believe this is a personal choice. There have been some discussions on this board about this topic before. We are not inviting children to our wedding because there were too many. We also found at other weddings that we went to that the parents of the children were too busy having a good time to watch the children who were often misbehaving. We decided that it was best not to have kids at the wedding.
