I'm looking for an externship to complete for my Mental Health Counseling degree. My supervisor has to be a Psy D., Ph D. CSW, or licensed mental health counselor. I'd really like to do it in a hospital but i'm open to gen. counseling centers.
Thoughts? Suggestions?

doesnt your school help you find places? you might look onto other school websites to see who they partner with for internships. like columbia, nyu, hunter. those agencies are usually more open to accepting students and are willing to give them the required supervision. a lot of the staff in hospitals are social workers, although i dont know much about the psych staff since im a sw. i interned at ny presb and they had a great structured internship program there. just not my style.

my school is a pain in the a$$. They do send out emails but I have to physically go there and go through binders of old externship logs that other people did.

Dance therapy sounds SO interesting.....for a quick moment, I thought of going into art therapy, but FH would die if I went back for all that school....and I hear no one is hiring

what neighborhood do you live in? theres tons of community agencies that provide MH counseling... try JASA and catholic charities (dont you work for them?) to start. i know there's a mh center run by catholic charities near my office in bumble frig brooklyn so im sure they have more. also u should make cold calls to hospitals
check this out, you can check OMH licensed places, they should all have people who can supervise :)

Hey!! I am a LMSW with a SIFI certification. I've supervised students every year for the past 3 years. I work at LIJ in the child and adolescent outpatient therapy department.
