Alopecia Update

Alopecia Update

So a few of you have been FMing me about my Alopecia that I previously posted about.

Yesterday I went to the Derm again and she injected my head with some low level steriod (I forgot the name) and it HURT!!! It was burning for hours afterward.

The spot itself is about the same size but when she was looking through my hair, she said lot was falling out.

My eyebrow looks okay, it isnt really growing in but I have a cosmetic background and I am able to pencil it in pretty good.

so thanks for all of you who asked, I am doing okay. I try to relax and not worry about it because I know that will make it worse I am still sad about it because FH has always loved my long, curly hair and it is my favorite feature as well. I have always gotten compliments on it :( but I am trying to keep my head up and go with it.

Re: Alopecia Update

OMG, I am sorry to hear about your condition...My sister suffers from Alopecia as well and I know how emotional it can be, especially for a woman! Anyway, I wish you good luck with everything. This is not the end of the world although I;m sure it feels like it sometimes. I also wanted to let you know that my sister went to Eddie D's Salon (it's not a really nice salon but they specialize in wigs)in Centereach...The guy there specialized in hair pieces. My sister got a 'wiglet'; real human hair, a small piece that just covers up the balding spot and the sides where she's thinning. Anyway, it looks amazing. Just like her real hair. And they were abe to cut it into her hair like a real hairstyle. You seriously can't even tell it's a wig. So my point is, there is help out there if you need it. I wish you good luck! FM me if you need more info...

Re: Alopecia Update

Wigs can be very uncomfortable in this weather unfortunately!

I know when my stepsister was going thru chemo, she could NOT wear her wig because it was too hot and it was in the fall and winter!!!

Good luck - I am so sorry you are going thru this!!!

No, no, it's a 'wig-let'. Very small. Seriously, it's meant to only cover the balding spot which on my sister was only about 3-4 inches diameter. It's very light.

Re: Alopecia Update

Thank you ladies.....so far no need for a wig or wiglet because my patch is covered by my own hair. Sometimes if I flip my hair around a lot you can see it. I try to keep it pulled back very loosely on occasions that I want ot be sure it won't be seen.

thanks for the suggestions and I will look into that saloon if I need to!!

Wiglets are not like wigs. I work with Cancer patients and some do not lose all thier hair with Chemo. A wiglet is pieces put into the balding spots. It is not hot and uncomfortable like a whole wig. Because it comes in so many small sizes and does not cover the entire scalp the body is able to let heat escape through the head so your body temp is regulated.

AN EXCELLENT SUGGESTION!

Re: Alopecia date

lilqtny -
I just read you post and it made me cry..only because I know exactly what you are going through. I myself have had alopecia for as long as I can remember. When I was younger it was mostly at the nape of my neck and grew back with cream but now as I have gotten older - I am 28 it has gotten worse. I go for cortizon shots every 4-6 wks at the derm's office. Yes the shots hurt
like crazy but take a few advil before hand and someone's hand to squeeze.
My hair has grown back but the spots keep coming back in different places BUT the good thing is it does grow back with the shots.
If you EVER need to talk, please FM me and let me know.

Hope you feel better soon....sorry so long hehe

Please try to relax, maybe go to the spa, try taking some vitamin B (I've heard that it helps you relax). Don't let this overshadow the most beautiful and important day of your life. Keep your head up, you will be a beautiful

Thank you girls. I really appreciate all the comments and advice.

To those who are also suffering with this, I am so sorry you are also going through it,

I am trying to keep my stress levels down, but we all know that can be difficult in the midst of planning the wedding. Hopefully, I will hear from a school district soon and they offer me a job, that will make me and very !! lol I am trying to stay light hearted and joke about it....I told FH that if I went bald we wouldn't have to pay for my hair to be styled on our wedding day at least I can laugh about it right???
