book photographers and videographers from separate locations. Is there a reason for this? Was their combined package not a deal? I thought it would be easier to get the photog and videog from the same people. What are your thought?
Thanks

Re: Alot of you girls opted to
We wanted a specific photographer and weren't interested in looking at anyone else. As of now, we're not positive we even want a videographer. We will have digital video cameras at the ceremony & reception (between my BIL, FBIL and us) and feel that's ok for now. To be honest - and not to offend anyone - I really find the videos to be cheesey - no matter how talented the people are...they're just not my style/taste.

I wanted a specific videographer and a specific photographer. I booked the videographer first and when I went to speak to my photographer I did not need to discuss video with him.

I booked my video before photo.

Two different art forms IMO. Just because someone is an amazing photographer, doesn't mean they are an amazing videographer and vise versa.

The video guy we wanted was cheaper (and better quality) than the one at our Photo place. Even other photo places i saw gave no special 'deal' for booking video as well.

we wanted a specific photographer. So, we didn't get a videographer b/c we spent so much on photos, but we had a friend video for us..

I agree with ddunne23. Photography and videography are two different art forms. The photographer I booked does not offer videography. However, the videographer I booked does offer photography, but I already booked my photographer. I also wanted a photographer from the city, since it's so much easier for me to get there than LI.

My photographer no longer has a videographer. I have an appointment with a videographer for Saturday morning , so I haven't booked him yet. We'll see how that goes.

Re: Alot of you girls opted to
My two cents on the video. Take this from a second time bride.
I spent $3000 on my video for my first wedding. Watched it a couple of times but most of the time it sat on the shelf with all our other movies. I remember thinking, 'wow, that right there is a $3K movie!!'
Don't get too caught up in the things you will NEVER use.
Now photography on the other hand, I will spend an arm and a leg for because pictures can be displyed in your home and are a wonderful memory of your wedding day.
Just my two cents! Take it of leave it!

I booked my photographer first with the same thinking that they will be my videographer also. However, the photographer I liked the best did not impress me or FI with the video options they had. JMO. So we booked a separate videographer.

Re: Alot of you girls opted to
To give you an opposite twist on things. My daughter was advised by friends who have been there, that if videographer and photographers work for the same company, the ASSUMPTION is they will get along and one won't be in the other's way. She's heard where you can have one guy standing where the other one wants to be, and the ego thing coming into play. Since the video was less important to her, she chose to go with the photographer they liked most and they hired his videographer for the above reasons. Obviously, the price was right as well.
I found that the photographers that had video packages were a cheesey videos...
I originally didn't want a video until a friend gave me a great reason...you will have your family members talking, dancing and laughing on the video...something that you can't get out of a photo...
my grandfather died 2 weeks before my wedding and we don't have any video of him...but when I watch my video I see my aunt and uncle dancing so close (he was dignosed with cancer...and has since died) and I love having that...
also I learned this on my wedding day...as the bride...you don't get to see everyone walk down the aisle...or into the reception...I was dying...b/c I wanted to see everyone...all I could say is I can't wait to see the video!! my sister (MOH) decided to book at that point too
I compared the price of the video vs the price of regret...

Re: Alot of you girls opted to
Another point-- many photographers offer video, but they farm it out (meaning they don't have a videographer on staff, but hire freelancers). And they take a cut in the action, meaning they pocket at least a couple of hundred for themselves. The photog studios I went to were charging $2300-2400 for videos that were totally cheesy. Meanwhile a solo videographer like Wild Rose actually charges less (or gives you more for your $) and this is their speciality.
Another good option is www.weddingreels.com. THey are a little less fancy than Wild Rose or the others, but provide great coverage for even less $. They have two packages -- one is $1500 and one $2300. I just booked them.

if you want the 'best' then you should book your video from someone who specializes in video, most photographers, photo is there specialty and they have a photo/video package because brides find it convient.. i would say check out some video specialist(like wildrose) and compare against a package deal to see the difference..

I booked from the same place. Not only did I like both of them, but I think it is important that the photographer & videographer work well together... I do not want them 'fighting' for mine & FH attention. The less I am pulled away from my wedding, the happier I am

If you book them separately you have to know who you are dealing with and their personalities - I booked separately b/c they was no comparison in the quality of the video person I am using and that of the videos we saw at the photographers. If you want nothing but a straight video (with basically little editing) then that might be the best route for you - we wanted something artistic and different - you really need to look at both the separate video and then the photo companies and then decide
