Alteration Caps -- What have you been quoted?

Hi Girls,

What have you been quoted as far as caps on alterations go? I tried on my dress tonight (Maggie Sottero Grace) and they told me $175. The dress fits perfect except for the length. Is this quote average or absolutely absurd? I'm not sure what to think!

TIA!

I was quoted at $150 for my cap and that would include every single alteration. i would assume if i had to alter only the length, it would be less.

there really isn't much to that dress - like no beading or anything.
when i bought my dress, and i know most people do this too, they write their 'cap' for alterations on their dress contract.

why would you get your dress altered now if your wedding is in july?

I ordered my dress in July and it came in early soooo... of course I totally wanted to see it and try it on!

I was unaware of 'caps' on dresses and so I started talking to the woman about alterations... thus, my question! I won't get it altered until May or so but $175 seemed to be a lot.

$300 cap from RK bridal - and I will likely go to the cap, b/c I need length, bustle, and to take it in quite a bit...

My alterations are $250.

If I didn't need so much done, I might think that was a lot, but along with the bustle, I will need the hem and top adjusted. (And of course, if I lose those 10 lbs by next year, I'll also need it taken in a bit!) It was a sample so they are cleaning it and fixing any beading that has come loose, so all in all, I feel $250 is reasonable.

I went to Burtons. My alterations are free

Bustle-$65
If I need it hemmed-$65

I think there are other salons that dont charge either. I would call around.

that's not free

my cap is $250. I think I only used about $150 of it though. I did not need a lot done to my dress.

The places that I have looked at offered no cap on bridal or mothers alterations - only on Bridesmaids.

My cap is $250 plus $90 for the bustle.
I ended up only needing $190 for the alterations, plus the $90 for the bustle.

I had to pay $100 upfront for them to measure my hem to hollow before I ordered. Then the remaining alterations are capped at $75. So total is the $175, seems about average.

I was quoted 265. They had to measure me from Hollow to hem too, but no extra charge for that. I had to pay $80 for extra lenght which isn't included in the alterations cap. But at least I don't think that I will have to get it hemmed now.

Mine was either $250 or 275. I didn't hit the cap, but they charged $110 or 120 just to shorten it which I think is outrageous. The alterations seem to be where they make a lot of their $.
