So i found a demetrios gown that I absolutely love, but it's a tad outside my price range. I can purchase it for about 400 bucks cheaper through Rkbridal but here's the deal. My dress has alot of embroidery on the bottom and the macy's saleslady told me that i cant get it hemmed because of all the work on the bottom. She said that they can do what's called a hollow to hem, which means that they take my measurements and send it to the designer so that the dress length is made for my body. She said that its not a good idea to take the length in from the waistline.
So my question is, if i buy it from RK bridal and take it to my own alterations person, can they fix the length of the dress w/o altering the look of the dress? has anyone dealt with this? Please help!

Re: Alteration Question
I would call the actual seamstress and ask... if you live anywhere near Setauket... I have a GREAT seamstress where everyone goes and I have never heard a negative thing about her!

Why? You are willing to pay for alterations so why not allow you to have them done there?
What does no frills mean? They know you can't buy the dress and wear it without alterations? What's the logic?

Re: Alteration Question
I called RK today to find out about a dress and asked why I can't pay them to alter the dress if I buy through the no frills policy. While the guy wasn't rude, he simply stated that brides are not entitled to this because of the discount they are getting. I don't understand it and they don't have good logic. My friend got her dress altered at Charmet Bridal in Bayside on Bell Blvd. a few years ago after her dress shop closed down. They did a great job and are willing to alter dresses not bought there. Give them a call!

Re: Alteration Question
Contact Phyllis Limmer at www.gownfind.com. She is a seamstress, can probably beat (or match) RK bridals price and get it for you according to your size. She is located in E. Northport.

Re: Alteration Question
I am also interested in a Demetrios dress that has trim on the bottom. I would think that the height measurements are taken when you order the dress and that they are not related to who does the alterations on the dress. Can you let me know if you find anything out?
BTW--Hyatt Wind Watch or gorgeous. We decided to have our wedding at a Temple, but the Hyatt looked great to us.

I just emailed gownfind and i'll let you know what they say. since she is the seller and also the seamstress, i'm guessing that it shouldnt be a problem. i was just a little worried bc RKbridal wont take your measurements, and i wouldve had to go to a seamstress that didnt know how the dress looked like.

Re: Alteration Question
Ok, so I heard from Phyllis at Gownfind. She was so nice! She quoted me the lowest price out of all of the websites I have been to, including tax and shipping. I called her on the phone and she stated that the cap for alterations was $150. She will do all of the measurements and sounded really great. I am definitely going to order my dress from her. Thanks, Lanikai, for suggesting her. Did you use her?
